Not aiming for a negative comment from trying to help someone to attempt a little bit of have a go Aussie spirit. It appears tapping away and a critical part of the sentence got missed. What I meant to say was the Red arc handwritten braked trailer wiring diagram they had faxed to ARB was completely incorrect for my d4
1. Yes the red arc diagram was completely stuffed up. Fact.
2. The forum has an excellent easy to follow step by step guide if a novice would like to try to install themselves.
3. I would like to warn other members of this potential issue. My so called fixed and working brakes from ARB could have been real interesting if I was traveling and had just relied on their word for it. Luckily I hadn't travelled far before I could trace back undo their error and could fix the wires they had wired incorrectly. But it did cause me to be annoyed at the installer and being a Sunday they were shut.
thanks to the forum a quick fix and we on the road again.
Disorow, Not aiming to be negative towards you personally & did not mean it that way, but to someone who is looking for information to possibly purchase a vehicle this information is incorrect. Incorrect info is not what people are looking for & as such that these vehicles are remarkable at towing it could put someone off a purchase especially if towing is it's main priority. You have corrected the info with your explanation & all is well. Cheers
No harm done. I am lucky enough to be on my 4 th Landrover in landcruiser country. This time I have a 3.0HSE D4. The reason being I wanted7 seats and the gimmicks ( for a kids car, and tow tug) the unfortunate part was the sales people don't mention minor issues like this brake control issue at purchase or offer a solution. I was completely surprised the local ARB didn't have knowledge off this issue either considering the volume of cars sold at local dealership.
As for putting someone off a purchase , you still need to install a brake controller if towing any trailer of size for any 4x4 .
It's the good fuel economy ( <12l/100 km ) while towing at today's prices and the comfortable ride the wife gets from the excellent air suspension (as they say happy wife happy life), and the small turning circle in tight shopping centre car parks or while reversing caravan is why anyone would be considering a purchase as a tow tug. Plus the car is a dream to drive on the highway hills, or any corrugated road even while towing a van. I am not bias have owned and driven many other 4x4. So far this is a brilliant car that I love driving everyday.
All the work now done.
Brake controller installed. I went for the Hayman Reece Compact remote head unit.
UHF Installed - GME TX 3345
DBS - Traxide USI-160, with battery tray and low power cutoff (thanks Tim!)
Next stop to pick up my new Mountain Trail Camper in mid December.
Very happy with local guys who did the job, very Landy friendly.
Glad all the add ons worked out well for you - enjoy that new car smell...
I'm at odds on this trailer wiring issue - same thing in our freelander2 wiring kit that I bought and had installed - (the tail light wire in the electric brake pin). There is an Australian standard for wiring trailer sockets & plugs - so why isn't landrover correcting the sockets so they comply before they are sold (either in aftermarket parts or brand new cars) ?
Also tekonsha p3 wiring instructions are incorrect for land rovers same as the post above.
If you willing to drive to Norwest Sydney try Greg 0404185 383 he is working for a well known LR independent for 8 years, deals with all LR and knows what he is doing he is also on the forum GregD2
