    [QUOTE=GlennS;2019160]Landoman,
The A pillar trim is the metal or plastic cover that fits over the screen near both front doors, it is to protect that edge of the glass and give a smoother finish to that part of the vehicle. The clips are what holds the trim in place, if the trim is removed carefully the clips can often be used again but IMHO you should make sure new clips are used. Better safe than sorry.

    OK Thanks Glen
Now i understand Ill make sure i know what Im getting with the replacement quote .

Another question on the process .......is it Generally the Insurance company who decides who and what does the replacement ....or does the owner get an opportunity get quotes from a few suppliers

OK, I haven't had a screen done for a while, 3 years, but it will be that time again soon as I have 4 stars all with those little O'Brian's stickers on them to help stop them turning into cracks.
Re OEM or AM screens, the last time I had a screen done the O'Brian's fella said that it had to be OEM as they were the only ones with the heaters & that the Land Rover glass was a lot thicker & heavier than most windscreens.
Would this be right or have things just changed over time?
I also had the rear screen replaced, with tint, with OEM glass.

    Windscreen cracked

Personally, I would have the work done by O'briens (The company has an extensive training programme for all of their windscreen fitters). The fitters also have support from the technical training team if they have any problems. I also agree with Jonesfarm, the genuine landrover glass is thicker and heavier than the other screens available.
    Hope this helps.

    Glenn.

Non-genuines are available with heaters. My local Obriens had one in stock but had to get a non-heated one in, only to then get a genuine one in a few days later.

Re Obrien's and quality. I guess that is dependant on the personnel working at a particular branch at the time?

Not sure about the windscreen glass being 'that different' based upon the amount and ease of OEM glass breakages I have had!

It seems to me that as insurers become more savvy they will insist upon the best option for them. None the less if you are able to get OEM glass without a drama good on you.

It does make me wonder what the insurance premium differences might or might not be?

i wonder if i can ask without upsetting anyone!

it appears to me a huge amount of people are, even repeatedly replacing windscreens in Disco's (D3 and D4). am i stating the obvious if i ask whether its a LR or Disco thing that they need windscreens replaced far more often then other vehicles , just a downside to owning a disco?

is a RRS the same windscreen ?

without insurance 'about' how much is a windscreen worth?

    cheers

    Chippy.

My window has been hit by a whopper.....small chip and fixed with the resin.

I have no problems with my D4 front windscreen.

Now....it will bloody happen I bet.

I don't think, necessarily, that the D3/4 windscreen is more prone to cracking/breaking (no evidence based, double blind testing though),(I've had a heated one replaced already) but because we love driving our vehicles more we encounter more hazards

Perhaps a project for GG, polycarbonate or similar windscreen protector similar to those for headlights or possibly peel-off protectors! How about a fold down windscreen; now why didn't anyone think of that before?!
