Just can't believe that happened first day I bought D3. It is a disaster from what it looks and definitely doesn't contribute to the reputation of this model.
I know you are disappointed and upset, however if you look through here and the UK forums I doubt you will find many instances of this kind of failure.

This is a second hand car which may have a service history but you really don't know what has occurred in the past.
The reality is engines fail, it could have been poor servicing or a material problem with the crank shaft that wasn't/couldn't be picked up in manufacturing.

My neighbor's father bought a new Lexus LS460 after the third engine in 2 years he returned it to them and got a new GS350.

    Sorry, have to quote again
The motor is now removed from vehicle and we have removed the engine sump and have found
Engine con rod seized onto the crank and has caused the engine crank to snap in half.
Causing terminal damage to engine as previously thought by us.

If the conrod big end was siezed on the crank would this be the result of the bearing cup moving blocking off the oil supply to the bigend we sometomeds read about on the UK sites ???? .

A thought - it's obviously not wear & tear ... have you queried your car insurance? (Assuming you have comprehensive policy) never hurts to ask

Under Australian consumer legislation you can claim where there is a reasonable expectation that an engine should last longer than that.
If it has full service history then you should be ok. Ask NRMA they have a free legal service for members.

Bearing in mind that this legislation only come to fruition in Jan 2011 and was not retrospective....only from that date onwards.
I hope he has some success with LR......it's a cruel blow.
