As a matter of interest, did any of the MY13 that just had a health check also have the new transmission software update?

My dealer offered me the option - I asked for the oil and filter to be changed, and would do the same again every time without question.
    Quite agree.

I would be inclined to do an oil & filter change early, say after a couple of thousand kms, just to be sure.

After that, however, I will follow LR recommendations.

$495 for oil and filter change. Is that the norm? I was just quoted this today

$285 for mine when I did the 12,000 k health check

Agree better changing the oil than not, particularly on a new car after a run in period. Intend to continue to do so midway through every service interval.

Preventative maiantance on any machine is the better way to ensure less issues, more longevity.

    Cheers

We had a service at 12.000ks instead of the health check, just had our 84,000k service done, all fluids and filters, brake rotors and pads, that included the Gearbox and pan, transfer case, front and rear diffs, the rear diff had the dirtiest oil, it's an E-Diff and we have used it quite a lot offroad where it was needed

All good so far(touch wood) complete service including parts and labour $1400

Keep in mind, I am referring to what is classed as "normal duty" here.

If LR themselves are saying that you only need to change the oil every 12 months, then why do it more often?

These days, oils, filters & motors have come a long long way. As has been shown in other threads, air filters for example, actually filter more rubbish out, the longer they are in service, as the smaller particles cannot get thru. So, by replacing your air filter every 6 months, you are always letting those tiny particles thru and into your engine.

I would presume (never assume) that the same also applies for other filters.

Personally, I would think that if a car manufacturer, who spends the equivalent of some countries GDP on research & development, states that 12 months between services is acceptable, then who am I to argue.
Perfectly valid thinking, up to a point. Just remember, Land Rover are not looking at it from the same point of view as you. You are considering the reliability and longevity of one motor. They are looking at thousands. They will be considering mean time between failures vs maintenance (warranty) costs over a fleet of thousands. A failure rate that is acceptable to them may not be acceptable to you, if its your motor that fails.

    Cheers,
    Jon

    Gribbsmy,

I got quoted $235 from Modern Motors at Dungog. Health Check and oil/filter change. They've done a good job on my D3 in the past.

    Cheers,
