Matt,
Can you post a picture showing the lever mounted on the shaft and what's between the lever and the casting? Mine has nothing to prevent grit from accumulating in the small gap but hopefully there's now some sort of seal to keep the gap clean.
Ric,
The picture I posted at the beginning of this thread and the term compressor shut-off valve (seems to be what its more commonly called) should be ample for your dealer to identify and check whether its the cause of your vehicle's problem. Its the whole assembly from the hose clamp at the bottom to 2 hose clamps at the top (1 just visible in the picture) including the vacuum chamber that operates the valve.
Little hard to get around the bends in sandy tracks when the steering wheel is pointing straight on ;)
Ok, here is an update,Got back to Adelaide ok but problem has now slowly gotten worse and now does it on flat roads as well. Have been back to my purchasing dealer for first service and to try and fix the problem. Dropped car off for them to do the work. Later that day we decided to hook my van up to my mates disco 4 which is 4+ years old and never had a problem towing a similar sized van. It did the same thing so we immediately knew it was not a problem with the car. Now the fun starts. Have checked nearly everything on my van, driven it with and without trailer plugs connected, disabled breakaway unit, checked correct operation of brakes etc etc. Still not solved. Hooked up his van to my car and not a problem. Only thing not checked yet is to change the hyland hitch and see if it makes a difference.BTW my mate also has a hyland hitch on his van. Dealer could not find any problems and did all the checks suggested in this and other posts. Stay tuned.
What kind of suspension does you van have?
I use to get a surge like feeling from my van when it had Simplicity suspension. Not saying its the issue you are having but when the suspension was changed to Control rider the issue went away.
