I would love to try the Maxxis AT but they dont have it in an 18. Ive had Maxxis muds for 4 years now and its been an excellent tyre both on and off road. I like the look of the Cooper but have had good and bad results ( one particular trip i ripped the side wall out of 2 tyres and limped back to melbourne with a stack of tyre repair strings jammed into the side wall. Rough trip.
I really need something that mostly drives around town and can do a few trips into the high country a year.
30k isnt enough really. Have you had any problems with tearing side walls?Quote:

I recently (7,500km ago) changed to the Bridgestone D697 AT which is also a LT construction.
So far they have been great, quieter on road than my previous Cross Contact AT and off road so far very good and they do no cut chip anywhere near like the Cross Contacts use to.
I am doing a bit some driving in the Vic High Country over Christmas and will likely post something after that trip.
Also there are plenty of threads on here about most the tires mentioned so far, so check back and you will get lots of different opinions and thoughts.
Overall I would be happy to recommend the D697 !

I'm with And3rew on the GG ATs I replaced my AT3s with ATs due to stock issues and have had more issues with cuts on the sidewalls and I don't think that the ATs are as good on steep downslopes as the AT3s either. They are, however quite a bit quieter on bitumen. If I had to buy tyres again I'd happily go with the General Grabber AT3 after looking around at the other offerings. I Have D697s on my Falcon RTV ute and I'm not impressed enough to put them on the Disco as they have the same style of tread as the GG ATs.

I had 18inch Cooper AT3's on my D3 for 2 years, always got the 10,000KM free check by Tyrepower and never had a problem. Not 1 puncture.
They were always very quiet and comfortable. 80,000Kms and still had about 40% tread, I was amazed.
I thought I would try the Bridgestone 697 this time around because they are LT's and are the duck's guts at the moment from all reports.
I am very happy with them, very quiet and comfortable also but you can notice they are a little firmer at the same pressures than the passenger car tyres.
I was annoyed 3 weeks after I got the 697's I picked up a nail in the sidewall so now my children play with it in our backyard, my Boss didn't seem to care too much! It's my company car.
Update ...only just put my AT3's back onthe D3 around the time I wrote my last comment in this thread, have done another 1,000 k's since then and I must amit I had forgotten how nice and well handling this particular model Coopers are.
Mind you I have had BFG Mud tyres fitted for the last six months.

I have GG AT's on my D3. Have had them on for about 20k kms and very impressed with their performance on and off road. Good value as well.
