I'm starting to think that paying twice as much as this D3 is worth plus the depreciation that will happen would pay for a lot of repairs to this 'reliable looked after' D3.
Besides it has everything I want on it.
"Some would say" that better the devil you know than the devil you don't.
Still I have some months before I make my decision.
All the feedback appreciated.

When the new D5 comes out it may change our thinking. However, if it is much more desirable for current owners the value of the D3's and D4's will likely drop a lot and still make the decision hard.

If it's running well and you're happy with it (which you seem to be) I'd stay with it... as you said "better the devil you know than the devil you don't".
I'm sticking with my 2007 (runs like a top) maybe in a few years time I "may" be tempted by a new D5 (depends how it turns out:() but I'm happy every time I turn the key on my vehicle - invested quite a bit of time and effort to get it to where it is today so it's a keeper (for now) ;)

I had the same dilemma a year ago. Loved my D3 and had it set up just how I wanted it. At the end of the lease I ordered a D4 and agonised over the decision for the 6 months I waited for it.
Thought I'd made the wrong decision right up until the day I picked it up and have never looked back since. I didn't realise just how much better the 3.0 D4 is than the 2.7 D3.
The only thing I miss on the D3 is the 17" rims and because of this there are now a few places I wouldn't take the D4 that I would have taken the D3, but when finances permit a set of GOE 18"s will solve that problem. Meanwhile I have been pleasantly suprised where the 19"s have got me - it will have done 3 trips to the High Country and a trip to the Flinders by its first birthday in March, on one set of Zeons. Also I haven't been able to bring myself to fit a bar and winch to this one as it handles so well without them.
Was it the best financial decision? Don't know, don't care. I'm happy.
Good luck with your decision.
Cheers,
Jon

Yes it is a hard decision.
I regret selling my D3 & wish I still had it.
Not that there is anything wrong with the D4.
By know I would have paid for the D3 & it had all the good gear.
