This is an adapter that provides connection for the rack base to the roof track. The long rails you are referring to are not part of the rook rack assembly. The long rails are purchased separately. Installing the rails onto the vehicle is a bit of work but easy enough if you take your time. You need to remove the existing aluminium strips that cover the channels in the roof and cut them such that only the front section remains. There is a good YouTube instructional video from a bloke in the UK.

    Hi pussinboots,
just had a trip out to Shop 1 with a pocket full of money and couldn't find a way to give it to them.
Not sure who I spoke to but he seemed like he just wanted me to go away so he could get back to work. But I digress.
he told me they would only sell the whisper bar in pairs and could get a single one but it wouldn't be much cheaper than a set. He also said that they couldn't put a third one on unless I had the factory rails. And they don't / won't install the rails. He was going on about liability and not being able to, etc. Bars and racks in Pymble were happy enough to install rails so I might end up back there.

What I was going to ask is if you installed your own rails and where you got them from. If I have the rails it seems like some issues go away.

The problem with only two bars is that I think they would be too close together for my very large and heavy kayak.

Hey dindsy. Strange that with Shop1 - sometimes people just don't get it. You want to give them your custom and they don't give a rat's! The guy I dealt with was the boss. His name is Steve and was very helpful. There were no issues in selling what he called a "half pack" in order to give me three bars. The only thing is that I had to buy full sets of mounting adapter kits as they cannot be broken up. This left me with with two spare adapters. Steve spent about half an hour measuring up my vehicle on a hot and busy Saturday morning to make sure it was all correct. If you want PM me an I can send you his email address. He promptly responded to my emails at the time.

Regarding the rails, yes I installed them myself. They are original LR parts and were thrown in as a last minute negotiation when I bought the vehicle. You can look up your local LR dealer and ask for a quote. I also installed the bars myself.

If you want 3 bars you should go for the long rails. Short rails are available but wouldn't be any good for 3 bars. For me 3 bars is way better than two as you can secure long lengths as well as short lengths. Carrying a 6 m length of timber on two bars mounted close together is not the best. Likewise if you only have two bars and you space them far apart you can't fit short lengths on.

Still seriously considering the Prospeed Group roof Racks, they are AUD$2.2k delivered, wich isn't that much more than ARB. I have just read it requires the short rails from LR in order to be fitted. Does anyone know of there is a way around this?

$2.2k delivered? That's a bit cheaper than when I investigated. Including duty and GST?
I eventually went for a rhino platform, bought LR short rails (in haste), as rhino do rails also which make installation easier.

There's a solution to your problem within our range.

Here are some pics of the various racks we do.

I have looked at your site before and found nothing (not even a reference) on these racks. Bajaracks site is being built. The do look quite good but need some more details of design and options.

You really should get some more info on your website.

I'll contact you for more info.
    Cheers, Mungus

Agree these are a great looking and functional rack. They do look extremely close to the panel work though. I am seriously considering this and possibly their new rock slider/steps (when they get around to completing them). Have you priced from an aussie Britpart distributor yet?

The only distributor for Prospeed Group in Australia I thought was Mulgo Expedition Centre in NSW, but from my understanding they are no longer doing imports for them. Seems the only way to obtain their parts are to import them yourself.

You would definately want to make sure that the order is worth it though.

Who did you get those from mate - are they the factory copies you see on ebay? Do you know if you can fit accessories like kayak holders etc from Rhino etc
