I don't know about the newer models but the MY10 (2009 build) had a voice tutorial .... which I never did in the 4.5 years that I've owned the car ... which explains why it was less reactive than it should have been.....LOL! I tried once when in heavy traffic but I needed to "Pull Over and Apply The Park Brake" ..... so it never got done... LOL!!!

However, Zoom in and out and dialling specific numbers were usually OK.

I miss it in my new one ... :-( You may think it's not handy ....as I did with my new D4 that has no SATNAV or Voice Commands ... it's only when you go looking that you realise that it isn't there anymore. I was driving up a mountain road this weekend and needed to find specific streets ... normally, press button on steering wheel and ask to zoom in ... no safety issue, no leaning over ... just done! I just bought the latest TomTom .... brilliant graphics and functionality ... but it doesn't do that! Plus it's stuck to my windscreen :-(

Must read the manual too. I've only used voice command for the phone and it works well. Didn't run the tutorial either. :p

My 2014 Discovery has the same system, Touch Screen, reversing camera, and H&K sound. - No voice commands function either. A bit disappointed to say the least.

I have also been looking at after market integration options also. Apparently this one is available in Aus, and it features Hema maps!

The biggest feature for me is that I would like to be able to add on is more cameras to the existing screen.

That is the system that was in the recent loan D4 I had for a few weeks while my D3 was getting its 6th gearbox rebuild.

The on-road navigation is one of the worst I have used. The voice warnings for turns came as you were turning so if you weren't watching the screen frequently, you would moss the turn. It also took forever to re-calculate if you did miss a turn.

Based on my experience, I would definitely not recommend it.

By 'that' system so you mean the standard LR Navi, or the one that I quoted?

I've just purchased a TomTom Go 600 ... which is 'supposed' to have the fastest processor, best screen, blah, blah, blah and I constantly miss turns (with VC on and looking at the screen).

The same may have happened on the OEM system in my old D4, if I went on voice alone but I found the graphic display easier to read or interpret than I do with the TomTom. I just glanced down and rarely missed turns. The LR split the screen with a clear 'distance gauge' being displayed ... the TomTom has a thin replication of the same function on the side of the screen.

Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to the system. I do find however, the GPS on my windscreen, a major PITA .... I'd forgo all it's new swish displays in a heartbeat for an integrated OEM system....or an integrated after market system that doesn't cost over $2000 ... another story!

I've tried numerous positions and am currently running a position that only ****es me off 10% of the time, however, it does create a blind spot and is distracting, especially at night. In some positions at night you have a physical blind-spot and a proportionate glare blind-spot .... that around 12" on a Go 600.....Not good at all!

My sunglasses are polarised and drastically reduce the readability of the TomTom ... an issue I never had with the OEM system. The salt in the wound gets added when you park, have to remove the screen and take with you or hide and then can't put the wind-shield screen on properly because of the mounting stalk.

I've only had the TomTom a week or so but was recently driving through a Northern NSW town, in the dark, in the rain ....and missed a turn. The bloody thing zoomed out while it recalculated, leaving me blind. The old OEM system, at least continued to show you the streets at the same level of zoom, allowing the driver to make a calculated .... 'sit and wait, continue on, or this route will be fine till it re-calcs' decision.

Thanks for the post .... appears I'm not alone.

I recently did a bit of research and there are two highly regarded places in Brissy that can fit an integrated system, one on the North-side and one South-west. The latter have actually done about 5 D4s ... and have photos to prove it :-). The North-side guys sound very professional, have done lots of hi-end vehicles but have never actually carried out the task on a D4 ... so I know who I'd go for.

They have different hardware as the host but both use iGo Primo as the NAV platform ... incidentally iGo Primo is used by Toyota ... LOL!!! Both systems use the existing LR hardware ... touchscreen, etc and only add the NAV function, allowing the 4WD screen, etc to still work. The link you posted appears to not suggest that ... but I could be reading it wrong.

A rough figure of almost $2500 from the guys who had never done it before, a fixed $2000 from the guys that have actually done several D4s. Both systems can have HEMA map options ... for another $400.


It blows my mind that major, hi-end OEM companies 'lock' down their systems and make it so difficult to add functionality and lose money hand-over-fist to after market companies that have sorted easy (albeit expensive) work-arounds. They are just losing money and probably ****ing customers off!.

Oh and BTW ... why can you buy a KIA at $20K with SATNAV and yet spend over $70K on a BMW, Merc, Audi or LR and not have it as standard ... that sux!

I must admit I was a bit put off when both installation companies stated that they were using iGo Primo as the SATNAV platform and that this is the same as what Toyota use.

I've never seen a Toyota SATNAV, but I wondered if it was any better or worse than the LR OEM system.

I guess there is possibly another variable at play here .... how the interface is set up. I imagine Toyota, the system you've seen and the two I researched could actually have a different 'Look and Feel', meaning one may be more user friendly than the other, even with the same platform in the background.

This is probably gatuitous now, but I have Hi-Line audio with touch screen and reversing camera but no Satnav and thus no voice command (MY12 SE). The voice button on the steering wheel is another on/off button for the sound system.

Voice command on my iPhone works okay though but not using that button, using the phone button. Well not okay because Siri cannot understand a word I say and usually dictating a simple text message takes about 17 drafts.
