Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of gearing up my disco 4 for touring, I am bit stumped on tyre selection?
Any thoughts, help would be appreciated

Im looking around for a D3 SE diesel. ATs are of interest to me too.
the 255/60 18R range seems limited. There are a lot more sizes in the 17s. A lot of 4WD manufactures have been releasing models in the 17s since the mid 2000's. I suppose more models are now with 18s and so availability will increase.
Ive only destroyed tyres on one occasion and the vehicle was overloaded and road horrendous. Otherwise it has been repairable. I used Goodyear silent armorers on the last trip.

You are best off getting LT rated AT tyres.In the OEM 18 inch size Bridgestone have one.A few threads on here about it,people that have them are pleased with them.
If you go to 17's,there are heaps of options,which is what i have done,using 245/70/17,very close to OEM size.
If you want to go oversize,you can run other brands of tyres in 18's,but they may rub,and the spare will not fit where it should be etc.
Do a search on here,heaps of threads about tyres for D3/4.

I will be installing a duel wheel carrier by kaymar, and a 104 litre fuel tank from ARB, so room for tires will not be a problem.
I'm prepared to buy new rims to suit the tyres that I need no problem with that.
Thanks for the tyres size link and keep the advice coming its good to get advice from the experienced I don't want to make a mistake by purchasing the incorrect tyres setup
what's a better size wheel for touring, 17" or 18"? I thought 17s because of increased tyre availability. What's the advantage of 18" wheels?

None if you want a robust LT tyre,same or similar diameter to OEM.
But the 18' rims may look better and have a bit more bling,and have a wider footprint.And cost more and not do the mileage of a 17,and not as common.
The 245/70/17 is used on numerous vehicles,including the GX Prado.There are many LT tyre brands in this size.
And as sheerluck has said,17's will only fit the 2.7 D4,not the 3.0l.
All D3's will fit 17's.
