What's the timing chain issue with the explorer's?
I wonder about the falcon 6 in there, falcons used ZF 6 speed so if length was fine? Or BOSS v8 for that matter...
Just to clarify, if the replacement engine comes complete with all ancilliaries attached, and is a dirct bolt in and plug in then it is relatively quick, however if a reco bare long is supplied, then double that $700 figure

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

I looked up dropped valves on both the Land Rover 4.0 and Explorer 4.0 V6 couldnt find anything.
The timing chain issue on Ford Explorers(same engine) is fairly common.Tensioners were faulty, wore, broke then snapped the timing chain(s).
From what I read, you are LUCKY if only the front goes, you can fix without the engine removal. The rear one has done the same work, one would be silly not to replace it it wasnt broken.
Falcon 6,I wonder if the Mrs would miss the turbo6 out of her territory,Boss V8,I like your thinking

Hey Andrew. Might be worth giving Steve at Lifestyle a ring. He sometimes drives a D3 V6 petrol (his wife's) and knows a bit about them. Might also know where to get spares if you are looking for them.
Everything I've heard about them says that they're a good engine. The black one parked near mine under the office is a V6 petrol - Brendan swears by it.
Cheers .........

Buy a wrecked TDV8 RRS and put that drivetrain in it![]()
I liked the V6 petrol when I test drove a few, quite torquey and made a nice noise.
I ended up getting a V8 for a good price but I had to wait a while for one to show up.
As said above, what's the rest like and how can you tell without a drive, bushes might have gone, transmission may be faulty, does the air suspension work? It could all add up to the price of a complete runner - if it was under 10 grand I'd have a look.
I spent $2k on mine on brakes all round, bushes and a few tyres when I first got it, and it was a runner!

You quote around $2000 for an engine replacement.
Any idea where I can get someone to do the job for that type of money?
