Recently went through the flinders & Oodnadatta on a set of pretty worn (5-6mm) 19"ATR's, covered 5500km in 9 days. Dropped the pressures down to around 28-30psi when on the dirt and didn't suffer at all, the tyres were barely scuffed.
I've just bought a new set, 3rd set I've had. Unless it was heavy mud or very rocky I'd be comfortable using them.

Wear: i am wearing the hankooks rather quickly but i have been towing a 3200kg caravan for 17,000kms around Aus. About half worn now.
Strenght/ puncture resistance: the Hankooks are a light truck tyre. When i had to chance to pick up one of each the hankook was significantly heavier than the pirelli. I believe the Hankooks are stronger.
So on balance i think i prefer the Hankooks for what I do with the car.

There have been plenty of discussions on this site about Scorpion ATRs ... usually very positive comments ... maybe they have been deleted over time.
I was a Pirelli advocate after fitting them to my first D4, after 3 punctures within a week with ~50% worn Wranglers. The Wranglers are good in the wet and dry but are soft and puncture prone.
The Pirellis are definitely strong and the tread block is durable even on sharp rocks. I've read that even though they are not LT, they do have tough sidewalls.
Unfortunately, I found you have to keep them quite hard (40psi +) to stop the outer edges wearing very quickly.
Mainly I lost confidence in the wet due to aquaplaning issues ... which I've now read a bit about. It seems that once the edges wear, the water is blocked from ejection, as there is a rubber bar or support on the outer tread block that is fine on a new tyre but is an issue once worn. I'm not sure how true that is ... it might just be a compound issue but quite a few folks report the slipping or planing issues after some wear.
I never felt confident in the wet with them after a bit of wear, especially once I had a horrendous, almost ran into a concrete wall experience, at around 100KPH on a wet road. I may have got blasé about the conditions as it had been raining for hours and I'd never had an issue that day or before when the tyres were new or with the OEMs. But when a 3 ton truck turns almost side on, instantly, with no warning, it certainly gets your attention. Hats off to the D4 though ... it's TC is amazing and righted the wrong very quickly and averted what could have been a very ugly situation.
I can't comment on any other tyre ... maybe all ATR type tyres suffer the same issue. I have LTZs on GOE rims but they only get used for camping and have never had to drive through any significant rain.
Hand on heart, I don't think I'd buy Scorpion ATRs again due to my lack of wet weather confidence and based on a now recurring topic in that regard.

Hi Celtoid, regarding old comments that are hard to find.
I can assure you they or any other comments have not been deleted, they will be there it will just be a case of refining your search to find them.
They are.... but they don't come in a 19" size - so not a lot of use to many of us.Quote:
