My Satnav is now used as an expensive Compas. I have a HEMA HN6 as my main nav unit now. I also refused to be robbed of my hard eraned dollars to pay what they want for map updates.

Another plus for the OEM system is, when you get a low fuel warning the nav will automatically show service stations on the map, it also tells you if you have enough fuel to complete an intended journey.

The issues most people mention have nothing to do with the capability of the system and everything to do with the implementation by LRA. They refuse to pay any licensing to have the services provided (such as TMC). For those of us on older nav systems (pre 2013 I think), it seems impossible to get updates to the maps as, again, LRA refuses to come to the party(I'm checking on this currently).

Lastly, having to pay $300 to get the system updated every 3rd or fourth year is hardly a reason to forego the factory system (by the way that's the same price for other car makers and seems to be dictated by Whereis rather than LR). Regardless of the missing features, I would go for it every time to get its integration with the cars other systems.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Ah yes, forgot about that....it's very handy. The OEM is also very easy and safe to turn the volume up and down. With the TomTom I have to reach over to the windscreen and select another screen before I can slide (read time consuming ... yes seconds only, but they count when driving) the volume controller and then I have to change back to the Nav screen.

That is a very big Con of the OEM system .... and a bloody Con-Job it is too....$500+ for an update.....or it was when I got the old one done in 2012. I believe that was hundreds cheaper than previous years, so maybe it will keep coming down.

I can't believe that folks have working voice control. On my '05 that is the most useless and frustrating feature ever !

The whole "hands off" is why I route audio from my phone to the stereo via Bluetooth so directions are provided much as with the fitted nav system (but the oem satnav lady does have a nice voice!).

Works a treat, "Navigation zoom out 2", zooms out two steps, "Phone dial voice tag ....." , "Navigation cancel guidance" for when I know the road from here. The more I use it the more I love it.

Mine is more like that episode of top gear where clarkson spent an evening trying to get an a class Merc to recognise a command ... Don't think it's ever recognised a command from me.

And, if you push the voice button, you can cut off the confirmation, and go straight to the next step...

No need to put your iced coffee & pie down while you are driving.

Ahh sweet didn't know that thanks for that. Also noticed the other day when your using voice command it stops the indicators ticking.

Same if you have not buckled your seat belt.
