(serious question) Terry, have they changed the design of the top bleeder hose set and valve on the 5.0 ? The design of that <expletive> thing on the 4.4 is a disaster waiting to happen.

Haven't seen under the bonnet of a 4.4 for a couple of years so have nothing to compare it too Mick to know.
I know one thing, it will be a pain trying to fit a second battery under the bonnet with two air intakes taking up so much room.
Must admit I'm blown away at how frugal the 5.0 is under normal country driving and how bloody quick it is if you put the foot to the floor, obviously not as quick as the wife's 6.2 litre Senator but still very impressive. As for torque, sure its no diesel but it still has plenty of grunt. We towed a large enclosed tandem trailer to Canberra and back yesterday and the fuel consumption went up by 1.5 litres per hundred and that was with cruise set at 110kph.
Anyway each to their own on what power plant they prefer, I have no intention of getting rid of the diesel D3 even though it costs a small fortune to keep maintained.
My friend my comments were followed by the emoticons that showed the intent of each comment and that I was joking.
So no need to make it personal, because I wasn't.
Good luck with your new purchase I hope the oil consumption issue ends up being nothing more than a running in quirk of the new 3.0.
If not and your quick and lucky you can always trade it in and get the last new V8 petrol D4 left in the country. ... ;)
Terry, would you like me to post a pic of the offending component in situ sometime for reference ? Failure of this component on the 4.4 is not uncommon (I've lost one with no damage, Gossamer lost one which took out head gaskets and there are plenty of other reports on the webs). I'd hope they'd have changed it because it's a cluster of a design, but it would be interesting to know.
As I've said plenty of times in the past, for a big powerful heavy vehicle, the economy of the V8 is surprisingly acceptable. It may have something to do with all those effortless killawasps !

My friend, similarly nothing personal :p just giving it back :(:(
I'm sure it will be fine. It's only a $100k car after all, could've been worse ;) see using emoticons makes the comment all warm and fuzzy, gotta love those emoticons, Putin should've put them on the end of his letter of trade sanctions   then we'd know it wasn't personal ;)

Hi, The turbo actuator for my 2009 RRS 2.7TDV6 has failed and requires a new turbo, quoted a price of $3600 for a new replacement plus fitting.
Can anyone advise if the oil drain modification for the D4 second turbo mentioned above is also relevant to the 2.7 single turbo?
I tow a large caravan and I am thinking of getting an EGT sender installed so that I can monitor turbo temperatures on long hill climbs - any suggestions?
