It still amazes me how many people get market value insurance rather than agreed value and then end up feeling totally sick when the insurance company write off their pride and joy after an accident only to get offered half of what they thought they had insured it for.
Latest as of this morning….. QBE came back to me with a quote of 1520.00 incl all the accessories and two year new for old, (couldn't get the 4 year new for old as i hadn't originally insured with them since new but no worse off then now) so a difference of approx $800 !! staggering. Pays to sit on the phone for an hour!

YOUI would not insure either cars for agreed value, but their market value calculation is based on comparable cars for sale on carsales .com.Quote:

I had great trepidation about this but the value of our write off was more than fair it was accurate and enabled us to buy a similar car including on road costs.

Just re insured with AAMI after shopping around and doing alot of investigation. Went back to AAMI with the cheaper quotes I had obtained on the D4 and they came down to $50 more expensive than the cheapest I could get it in the market. This meant they came down just under $200 and were $50 more and listed market value, it was worth it.
Just be careful with the Youi's and Coles of this world, whilst they are cheaper you get stung on market value. I would have gone with youi but they refused to provide a current market value and indicated they use redbook at the time of the claim. Difference with AAMI was they list the value for 12 months on the policy, whereas the cheaper guys don't and at the end of the day you can argue black and blue buy without knowing what you are insuring your car for in terms of value, you are rolling the dice within reason. that reason and redbook sees my D4 worth -$13k less than what I can get second hand for it in the market.....
When I went to agreed value with the cheaper companies they were more expensive than the market value guaranteed by AAMI for the next 12 months.
Not saying aami are the best, shop around but watch out with any company on the cheaper options and make sure you are truly covered as my neighbor found out with -$18k gap on his BMW with the cheaper guys and their 'market value'.

Depends on your circumstances. I'm with YOUI, having taken them on as they would insure me at "rating 1" based on history even though I had not had comprehensive insurance for a couple of years. They also were happy to give me agreed value (which in my case is a bit over 4 times my purchase price). I'm paying $1100 per year. Will look around after a year and see if I can get a better price with the same inclusions.
Hi, try Allianz, new MY13 HSE in Nov last year $830, I have full N/C and other policies with them. Strangely, CBA (the bank) policy was also very good, as others have said watch the fine (exclusions) print.
I have been with AAMI for many years over a couple of cars, but the D4 in particular for the last 4 years. It has been the cheapest at around $1300-$1400.
My recent experience with a claim (not my fault, driver ID'd etc), has left me with a bad enough taste that I am going elsewhere once it has all resolved. In short, AAMI's model of getting repairers to bid for the work means the repairers try to do the cheapest job they can get away with in the hope that it is passable to the end user. In the cases where it isn't, then the user claims the "lifetime warranty" and the original repairer then needs to pay someone else to fix the substandard work.
(In my case the original repairer painted the 2 doors without a decent colour match, repainted again but with dirt and tiny bubbles, had a 3rd go but only polished out imperfections proud of the paint. Currently about to be totally re-done, with a rental car and the orginal repairer is footing the bill).
QBE has a discount of 20% online for the same conditions to bring it to around $1000-$1100 with my choice of repairer.
I heard Shannons is also very good, but in my case it was a little more expensive than AAMI.
