    Hi There,
I'm with APIA, came in this year at $781, called them to ask WTF was going on after I got a $600 quote going on line and getting a quote on the same vehicle, that was Friday, tomorrow I'm going to call SGIO and see what they can do. That's a $600 excess and windscreen, protected NCB.

After a number of years with SGIO I'm moving away from them to the RAC. Started last year when the agreed value on my D2a seriously dropped. RAC's agreed value range is a lot wider and their premium was cheaper as well. So that made it a no brainer.

I've just changed over the caravan in the last couple of weeks. 20% cheaper with RAC, and better contents coverage. Only negative is $5mill rather than $10 mill public liability which I can live with.

    Cheers

    Steve

    QBE Off Road Policy

Im looking at insurance for my new Defender and QBE are only 60% the price of AAMI and CBA. $550 versus $850 / year. Seem almost too good to be true but i re-did the quote 3 times to be sure.

Does anyone have access or information on the offroad policy of QBE as i cant find the wording anywhere. I have also requested QBE but maybe someone here has the info handy.

Also, how did people go with contaminated fuel. Seems like a big sticking point for some people deciding on policies.

Thanks for bringing that up. I didn't even think about that and was about to changeover in the next month or so, so I have followed up.

The link to the QBE PDS is here, but it does not mention anything, so I called them on 133723.

The operator said "any road within as Australia as long as it is a legal road". I then asked "Does that cover damage on private property that isn't a gazetted road?" She then went away and looked it up to give me the proper answer which is: "Covered on any road Australia wide that is a legal road as long as it a legal 4WD track." As for private property, "so long as it is legal for the 4WD to be on that property." I also mentioned Fraser Island or Stockton Beach and she said "so long as it is legal for the 4WD to be driven there, then it is covered".

She did note that it is not recorded in the PDS anywhere, but if necessary could be noted on the policy directly.

    Affinity

Affinity gave me a good response, possibly a bit expensive for a MY15 Defender,
    with $15,000 of accessories
    for $1,000
    but....

Full Off Road Cover Australia wide including non-gazetted roads & tracks
Up to 3 Years New for Old Replacement

I will try RACQ first , but they are my Plan B
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Ya Champion. Im in Jakarta and cant call their number so you have helped me out a heap. Great to hear about beach driving being covered also - as long as its legal to be there. Thanks.

Fuel Contamination is the only outstanding issue that needs to be nailed down in more detail (writing)

    Fuel contamination,

    Off track a bit,
    Easy preventatives,
Ensure breather is straight & high.
A Mr Funnel for dodgy refuels

    Harder,
The right water separator/filter in the right place before the primary filter that does not restrict the flow, still looking. Will have to talk to an expert.

I told my 38 year old son to try them but they were quite expensive for him.
So it depends on your circumstances , but for old codgers YOUI is great.

BTW we had 2 no fault accidents in 12 months, one a write off on a 2006 Honda Jazz, and the other $8500 on another Jazz. Both were handled in an exemplary fashion , and The write off value was satisfactory and paid within 2 weeks.
We have now changed our home insurance to them.
    I am a YOUI fan.

I got a quote from youi for my recently purchased d3, those guys will do anything to sign you up on the spot before you hang up the phone. Me personally I find it quite irritating, especially when you shoppping for quotes and its the second phone call youve made - like hell ill agree to anything before ive checked out the market. I'm not going to bother with them again
