Buggar - if it was going to put out that sort of torque than I could have fitted steel rims and taken over the job of either the Indian Pacific or the Ghan when either became unserviceable. Smooth ride I would imagine.

When does the additional power or torque get used? The only time(s) that I ran out of power is after I've run out of momentum in very soft sand at the beach and come to a stop. When getting started again, there is plenty of power to turn the wheels forward but not for reverse. And so, engage low range and presto.

At no other time has the accelerator been pushed to the firewall except for fun and to see what she'll do.

My SDV6 3.0 would never reach the situation where the additional power was employed. There is no hill steep enough where traction is not an issue, nothing you can tow legally that is heavy enough and no one wants to race me anyway. It is a lot of money to spend on something useless.

On my way up Big Red.

I am sure if people are honest, it is all about the acceleration. When a car (especially a big 4wd) accelerates a lot quicker than you would expect then it is fun. That is why people buy 427kw Holdens when the basic 6 cyl taxi version will do the same job.

Range Rover aren't making the fastest 4wd round the ring just to taxi the family around - they do it because there are plenty of big kids with money who want fast toys out there.

Same applies with remaps and performance upgrades on any car.

That is true mate, where there is a market there is a sale ... status, fun, whatever.

I flew to Sydney this week for business and was reading the in-flight Virgin magazine. They had and article on watches ... Swiss mechanicals Vs the new smart watches that are due to hit the market (or may have already).

Long story short ... some of these Swiss watches were $170K. Seriously .... you have to be freaking kidding me!

Supply and demand ... same folks feel they need a $200K watch others feel they need 1000hp.....
