I dont subscribe to that train of thought "if you can afford an expensive car dont worry about fuel" i still worry about fuel doesn't matter what i drive, i dont worry heaps about it but if i dont go out there to stupidly waste it. In my eyes i probably wouldn't bother with it because i would guess it would chew quite a lot of fuel compared to the twin turbo diesel. I would want to have a overnight test drive of real world driving and that to get a good feel and see how it went with fuel figures before to be sure before i would lay the $$ down.

4X4 Australia compared the 200 Cruiser, the newer model Patrol & the SCV6, all petrols...makes for a very interesting read. I guess there are people who don't like diesels for what ever reason.

The SCV6 is pretty good on fuel though for a petrol & according to that article it is pretty smart from a standstill too, not a hint of any lag, the benefits of a supercharger.

I would say LR have done this from a marketing point of view, a V6 is probably perceived to be more responsible than a V8. But as 4wd's are not at this stage considered Eco friendly anyway, V6 or V8 is not an issue. That may change when LR release the Hybrid RR.

It makes me sad that they've dumped the tradition of the V8 in a Disco.

Its not that I don't like other motors, it's just that I love V8's, the simplicity, the power, the sound (in some V8 motors only two of those are true ... haha). Some folk may think I'm a bit nuts, but I'm sure there are a lot of folk who agree :p

Every bloke needs to own a V8 at least once in your life ;)

Whenever we buy a car in our household my wife says "if you buy this car, you may never say to me 'I wish we'd gotten a V8' or there will be trouble". We usually have at least one V8 motor in the stable at any time (soon to be two again, yay). It helps with the habit a lot that we have a tiny little car for town work.
