I'll can live with a little bit fugly...if it keeps water out of my intake ...;) after all I'm probably not the best looking bloke here anyway... :p
But each to their own..... :D
I saw a D3 with a small UHF antenna mounted on the top os his snorkel at the Land Rover Expo on the weekend. But cable was up the A pillar and entered the snorkel near the top just so it could come up under the antenna mount.
Not sure I loved the look but it was unique.
And yes the safari snorkel is not beautiful but it does what it is supposed to do, don't know why you would pay double to get an inferior solution.
I've got a LR RAI on my d3(not by choice, it was there when I brought it) and my UHF antenna is mounted ontop of the intake also. Difference with mine is the cable runs down the intake and comes out near the rear corner of the bonnet.
Has anyone changed over from the LR unit to a safari? Just wondering if the change over leaves any holes etc..mthat will need to be tidiied up
because I only use my D4 for shopping so it has to look good[emoji12]
seriously though I will look to waterproof it so I get the best of both world's. I am very nervous about drilling into the pillar though. I had to drill to fit the ladder but that was at least behind the door latch. I need to look at the instructions still, but am I drilling on the outside painted part of the pillar or is it under the removeable windscreen strip?
The drilling is under the strip for the Safari. Use cobalt drill bits, the steel is HARD! Have a look here https://app.box.com/d3safarisnorkelinstructions for Safari fitting instructions. It's not too bad, just take your time.
And instructions for RAI fitment are here https://app.box.com/s/zww8b7rgl646mq06d0nt
