I hear you. I think the issue is not one of engineering. No one wants to make a poor product and even cheap korean cars now have long life and matching warranties.

This is a customer management and sales relationship matter. You can take a view that once you have sold a car you have made your money. Or, which I suspect Audi do, realise that that one happy customer, even after a bad experience will translate into many indirect sales and repeat sales and loyalty.

I ma lucky, I have no issues with my LRs, early Disco 2, Defender and Freelander 2, enough of course to be very loyal and I don't see me ever buy another brand. Unless my new D4 turns out to be lemon.

When I had a D3, I reckon my warranty repair bill would probably be at the "top of the charts"! The second last replacement of the high pressure fuel pump was a $17,000 repair! Not sure of many other manufacturers that generous with warranty.

Long warranties are one thing... getting approval for warranty is another. Kia and others are dreadful at actually fixing anything under warranty. Kia gives the dealer 30 minutes or similar to trouble shoot and they can't find the fault... so it is returned to the customer. :(

Guy's, it's been covered on many threads ... extended warranty is NOT a buyer consideration, regardless of what the salesman tells you!


You don't need to get it until the very last day of your original warranty and LR DO-NOT provide the best cover available!

Allianz cover both the LR offering and a product that covers lots of cars including LRs, which is far superior and better value for money than the deal LR offer as "their" extended warranty.


It isn't a warranty, it's an insurance policy .... anybody can arrange that but LR sell it as or infer that it's an LR product.

I took out the Allianz top end cover for my original D4 and it paid itself off easily. No pattern of failures, just one oil leak that trashed lots of parts. Other than that, it wouldn't have been needed. Sounds just like any other insurance policy doesn't it?


Give LR their due, they were very active in making sure the warranty was honoured and the car was fixed within a day or so.

Yep took a red pen across both pds and almost identical in wording but different extra benefits ie the LR one has LR assist membership but for the additional cost you can purchase LR Assist or NRMA cheaper and still be ahead. Still think the garage want to offer the LR cheaper than the Allianz version anyhow. Boat docked at Kembla yesterday so not long now!

I absolutely agree, these are just parts and labour insurance polices which is why you should shop around and like any other insurance policy, it is a risk management decision. If you can underwrite your own risk, then fine. Many policies have per event caps (and excess levies) which might not be enough to cover the full cost of a new engine, but definitely soften the blow.

No problems mate.


There was a broker that had been used by lots of forum members, but she no longer deals with Allianz.


I'd ring Allianz directly. You may have to go through a broker but they should be able to point you in the right direction I'd imagine.


The product I believe is called "New Car Extended Warranty". It may have changed since this was a few years ago but Allianz should be able to help.

I may have confused the issue slightly ....

LR use an Allianz product. That same (or close enough) product was available from Allianz (bypassing LR) for significantly less money when I looked (~2yrs ago). I went through a broker.


However, neither the LR or Allianz policy are a full new car warranty, so it will not cover everything your original warranty did. I believe major components will still be covered, but I think even then there are some limitations ... in other words it's go to be really broke before they will fix it. Fittings and trim, for example will not. These items can still be pretty expensive. I can't remember the exact detail but there was quite a bit of difference .... or put another way, quite a lot was not covered by the Extended Warranty.


The point I'm trying to make is the fact that there is another Allianz product that is as close to a new car warranty as you are going to get. LR DO-NOT offer this product.


The long and the short of it ..... when I purchased this higher Allianz product it was around the same price as the lesser LR offering.
