    D4 key blade removal - MY11

    Hi guys,

Being an occasional surfer and living in Sydney I'm not keen on leaving my stuff on the beach whilst I'm in the water, and of course the remote is not made to cope with salt water and loose pockets.

Can anyone explain to me how to remove the key blade from the remote so I can take it with me in the water?

Would it be easier to get another blade cut, or any other suggestions?

Perhaps look into some sort of key "locker" box to put the key in whilst off surfing.
Does the removal of the tang imobilise the electronic key???? If not removing it is not going to help.

    You're welcome.

I also use the box when I'm doing long distance trips.

I keep my spare key inside it, locked and attached to my RWC.
Taped down with black insulation tape so it can't move.
Just in case I loose / damage etc my day to day key.

    Good point Andrew...
Maybe you could wrap the spare key in some aluminium foil before you put it in the storage unit... may "dissable" it - ??? (do a test).
I only mention this as I have a friend who had his Mercedes stolen from a public carpark... he was baffled that the thief got into it so easily... till he checked the details and found out that his wife had "left" the spare key in the glovebox (unbeknownst to him) and the car was in effect "unlocked" all the time - all the thief had to do was walk up to the car and pull the door handle, jump in and push the starter button... and the rest was history.
    Worth a try... cheers

I should make it clear that the car that was stolen was one of the new-fangled "modern" cars with "keyless entry" ... I'm assuming your D4 is the same... "modern" cars are just too damn smart for their own good some times !!!!

thank goodness my D3 is "old fashioned" so I can hide a key on it somewhere and it wont start... unless the bas####s find the key of course...

I use a similar product for my key and it works well. The thing DOES last longer if you remember to take it off the back of the car before you drive home from the beach!

    FK Key Safe | FK

I do not have keyless entry so don't have the 'left unlocked' issues.

    Hi guys

i have previously made a post here about which key blank i found is suitable for the landrover key - i can't seem to find it - from memory it was ford key.

if you lock the key fob inside the car you can still start it if you can get in - as Sniegy said, you need to wrap it in aluminium foil so it isn't sensed by the car

    cheers
