    Opinions on Kaymar rear bar

    Hi,
I am going to get some mods done to my D4.
    I have a 5 seater TDV6, 2014.

I am considering the Kaymar rear bar and a single SWC but from reading other threads there is a bit of concern over weight. I also want to put in a aux rank. I do not want to put the spare on the roof.

I will be towing a van, under 2000kg so not a biggy. I usually have a fridge and other gear in the back of the car.

Given I have no third row seats am I likely to have any issues with this bar or should I just go for another brand SWC. I was looking at the front runner but dollium do not seem to sell them any more but I believe OL do. Unfortunately I think there is no OL local in the ACT.

Sorry if this has been asked do many times before and thanks for any help

A kaymar rear bar plus one wheel carrier weighs 78kg + the spare.

Opposite Lock sell the Outback Accessories rear bar and carrier, don't know what it weighs though, oh and it's half the price of the Kaymar.

Rijidij on here made me one for my D3, it keeps the original bumper. I fitted it myself and nice and steady would say half day job to do.

workmanship on the product was excellent and a very happy with it. I alo have the longrange tank fitted and don't think there I any excessive weight on the rear of the car.

Send a PM to rijidij and see if he is still making them, his price was also better than anyone else.

I ran into a guy recently who had what looked like a frontrunner SWC which he got from OL.

It was different from OA one I have seen on web site.

Dollium used to distribute the FR, don't seem to do it any more.

As mentioned above there does not to be a OL store near by here in the ACT, once again according to the OL web site store locator.

Kaymar single carrier is $1890 for the bar and $860 for the carrier, total $2750 + fitting

The Outback Accessories twin carrier from Opposite Lock is $2980 + fitting, you may need to ring.

Single wheel carrier Opposite Lock $1340 and $1325 + fitting no bar seems to be two models.

rijidij wheel carrier only $1200 + fitting

Nearest OL is Narellan, near Camden, rijidij fitting is Peakhurst in Southern Sydney.

    Your Choice,

    baz.

Really don't see the need to spend the insane $ for the Kaymar unless you really need two spares on the back. A single carrier Ridgidij or Dolium is much cheaper and does a good job. If I need a second spare I put it up on the roof but the times you really need a second are pretty rare. Don't really need the extra weight or the extra protection at the rear and you do feel the weight when you have a full Auxilliary fuel tank. By the time you have a van on and a load of stuff in the back and another 70+ kg for a Kaymar bar you have an awful lot of weight behind the rear axle.

    Thanks for replies.

The quote I got for Kaymar was $3100 fitted, you probably can understand why I have asked the question. weight is another issue.

I will need to get it fitted. Web searches say there is an OL in Queanbeyan but it has closed. There is also supposed to be one in Mitchell ACT but it does not appear on their store search so it may have closed as well.

There is a local mechanic who I think does it, I better check him instead of just going for Kaymar.

Mine has a Kaymar bar on it with only 1 arm.

As you mentioned, they are heavy, as well as expensive.

Mine came on the car when I bought it.... I really like it, but if I was building one now, I would strongly question the need to add so much extra weight.

I have not seen the Rijidij carrier - but I have to say I have a Rijidij rear light and the service Murray gives is excellent, I would not hesitate to deal with him again.

    A couple of questions
Does Rijidig make one for a D4, I think he does
Does it have trouble with rear sensors
Do you need to do something with rear lights
