Now that's latral thinking:)
For comparison purposes I asked local LR dealer service dept if they could retrofit this camera. Basically told me that if it didn't come out of the factory with it, then they couldn't (wouldn't?) install it..
A question then: If I get my hands on all the necessary bits and install the OEM camera and connect it, I need to update the CCF to make it work.
I don't currently have a Faultmate or something similar to update the CCF so I can factor this into the cost (I know I can use this for all sorts of other useful things but at the moment I don't need it for anything else apart from this exercise- if I do it)
From what I understand from the forum, mostly these things owned by individuals are tied to one vehicle...
Assuming I don't want to be discussing this with LR dealer service with car still under warranty (?), is there a way to update the CCF without buying my own tool?
Sorry, I'm sure answer is quite basic but I can't quite get my head around it.
Thanks in advance
David
Hi David.
I don't know about a Faultmate, but a Nanocom is not tied to a vehicle VIN, you just need the correct vehicle unlock code (ie for a D4).
No a dealer will not do a camera retrofit. I understand their diagnostics are not able to make the required CCF changes, even if they wanted to.
Cheers,
Chris
Thanks Chris.
I'll check out the Nanocom
David
I'm putting together all the bits and pieces for this reversing camera retrofit for my MY14 and thought I'd provide an update of what I've discovered.
Thanks Chris for all the info you provided.
I found this excellent thread on disco3.co.uk - DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - D4 XS wiring for rear camera
As Chris said previously the front end of the video feed cable is under the centre console.

Looks like a Fakra F connector. So this needs a cable to connect it to the head unit (which is a Fakra D). I've ordered a 1m cable terminated with two Fakra Z females - based on what I can see this is keyed to fit all the other types. Fakra Female TO Fakra Female RG174 "Z" RF Pigtal Cable 1M FOR Wireless Neutral | eBay
For the rear section there are 2 looms - one new one and another to replace the loom for the tailgate microswitch loom - this will provide the power for the camera.

So putting together the info I've gathered so far I think the shopping list looks like this:
1 x Fakra Z female cable as per above
1 x LR043493 - camera
1 x LR015458 - micro switch with camera wiring
1 x LR021100 - tailgate loom with camera wiring
6 x FYC 500040 - clips for radio / air vents trim (these are a precaution in case any pop off during removal of the trim and vents around the head unit )
I've requested a couple of quotes but looks like about $650 for this lot shipped from UK.
I'll provide an update once I get the parts and start putting it together.
David
Looks great David.
You might want to confirm part LR021100 as when I googled it, it found a central locking loom?
I have already acquired a camera and tailgate latch loom. When you obtain an upper tailgate loom, I would be most interested to see how it is wired to the 4 pin connector in the roof lining. There is a 4 pin connector up there (+,- and 2 canbus) but the camera I have only has 2 pin plug into it (besides video). Presuming these are + & -, I don't know where the canbus wires end up!
Have fun,
Thanks Chris, I will check it and make sure. The thread on the uk site has a few successfully completed installations so I am assuming it is ok... we'll see when it arrives and I try to plug it in I suppose!
A question for those out there with a reversing camera (not surround cameras) installed as factory fit on a MY14 D4. Can you access the rear camera when not in reverse via the extras screen on the touch screen? Dmdigital (Derek) can on his MY15, I want to confirm if the MY14 is the same?
If so, I need to do some more digging in my CCF to try to enable this...
Thanks,
Chris
