    D4 MY14 Reversing Camera Install

The only option I could not secure with my new D4 was a reserving camera. I have the Hi Line audio so a camera should work on the touch screen.

I have acquired a cheap ebay camera mainly to test proof of concept. If all works, I may upgrade to a better camera in due course.

I attacked the dash this afternoon and was stumped by the plug into the back of the touch screen unit.

The pink plug shown is/was plugged into the second from the left (pink) plug. TOPIx tells me that the right hand pink plug is the reversing camera input.

Does anyone know if the connectors shown are a standard off-the-shelf type of connector, or are they likely to be manufacturer specific?

The camera I have has a generic RCA style connector.

    Cheers,

I would be interested to know how you removed it?

OK, I've done a bit of searching.....

Maybe a female BNC connector can be made to fit?

I obtained the instructions to remove the trim through TOPIx. Had to remove the top section of the centre console, then audio controls and sections of dashboard both sides of it. The touch screen is then free to be unscrewed and removed. It was not too hard but would be impossible without the TOPIx instructions as you would have no idea where to pull to release the clips.

Unfortunately I'll have to do it all again when I can sort out the right connector to trial...

    Cheers,
    Chris

That's a Fakra connector, each different coloured plug is keyed differently so that you can't plug the prong thing into the wrong hole.

From your photo I can't quite determine which key option the connector in question is, can you take a front on photo of the connector in question?

Here's a link to the spec for the connector that may help (see page 4) :-

Once we've worked out which variant it is it should be easy enough to order (unless it's a JLR special).

    Edit:-

My guess is it's a D type, if so they're super easy to get:-

Are you sure it's not a standard "N type" connector rather than a Bayonet N type (BNC) or Threaded N type (TNC)? Used on things like digital TV

You can probably get an adapter from RCA type to N type adapter http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PA3654

    drelectro, you're a superstar!
To me it looks like a type D or G plug. I'll have to pull the dash apart again to get a better look at the lug configuration....

    Cheers,

So is it the pink or the magenta connector for the rear camera?

If there is something already connected what function stps when you unplug it?

Only have a few months left before I can modify to my hearts content and not worry about warranty.

From TOPIx the four Fakra plugs across the back of the unit (Left to right in the pic) are numbered C2823, C2822, C2821 & C2820.

    They are:
    C2820 - Reversing camera input
    C2821 - TV
    C2822 - Video
C2823 - RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment?) CVBS

In my D4, the only plug used is the "pink" jack into C2822. I presume it is for video playback from the port in the glovebox?

I'll be aiming to plug the camera directly into C2820 and hopefully editing the CCF to tell the car it now has a camera.
