    D3 Key fob

    Folks,
the buttons on my D3 key fob have had it and I have to push to little micro switch under to unlock the D3.

LR was a small mortgage for a whole new key assembly. I have seen replacement cases on ebay but a bit dubious about them as they talk about having to get the key recut?? What the?

Is there a simple way to just replace the case with the buttons in it? Basically put my guts and blade i na new case?

I'm sure some gurus from here have come accross this before.

    thanks in advance.
    cheers
    Peter

Yeah been there done that ! There is a mega thread around somewhere about it and there is a lot of info on disco3.co.uk about it too.

Basically buy a new case from eBay, open old one and transfer key blade and electronics. You might want to look at changing the battery (soldered to board) and inspecting the soldering in general. I opened mine with a dremel as they are held together as if cast from a plastic billet others have opened them more easily. New one glues together so test it covered in cable ties until satisfied that all is good.

Make sure you have a spare key as there is some possibility the key won't survive the opening process and you'll be up for a new one. HTH

I've done it as well, no big deal, opening the original was the only pain.

    Hi
For the budget conscious there is this option:
Land Rover Discovery 3 Remote KEY FOB Button Repair PAD | eBay

Working fine for me (as long as you know which button does what!)
D3 MY06 HSE TDV6, 285/60 R18 Cooper Zeon LTZ, Traxide, Mitch Hitch, Pseudo-Safari Snorkel, Second compressor, Quick Release Qubelok rear drawer and Waeco 60L on slide.

    Replacement Key Fob in Brissy

Hi PeterOZ - check out Amalgamated Locksmiths 108 Breakfast Creek Rd on phone 3252 7872.

Two ways they can help 1) Empty case and you swap your electronics over

and 2) For about $50 they do the swap over for you.

You choose and even though I took the first I would go for the second way next time.

BTW, the new fob is marked with the LR logo and looks and feels like the original. One happy camper here...

    Another supporter for Amalgamated Locksmiths,
I bought an empty case on a Popular web site, They were fast, the quality is great.

I cut open the old one with a stanley knife, swapped the electronics and the blade & superglued it back together.

    All done in 30 minutes.

I used the instructions available in a thread on here, ordered the new cases and batteries and replaced both keys batteries and cases using existing key blades and electronics. Fiddly but not hard and works well

Another happy Amalgamated Locksmiths customer. I got two new empty cases, transferred the guts over myself, and now have two keys which look and work like brand new.
