caravan mirrors for D4

Good luck with the Milenco mirrors. I've had 2 sets, both the standard ones and the Aeros. Both sets fell off at various times and bounced down the highway. Fortunately they weren't damaged when retrieved.

I also had a set of the Camec suction ones. Again, they fell off a couple of times. But the biggest problem with these is that they're too small.

But the biggest bugbear I have with these clip/attach on mirrors is the vibration. To be honest they shake so much I find (found) them next to useless when towing.

I checked out Clearview and they hadn't finalised their mirrors for the D4. However, I volunteered my car as a donor vehicle and went to 2 fittings. When I drove with the prototypes down the Hume Hwy it was like a breath of fresh air.

Unforunately, I've now sold my Disco. However, I just went to Clearview today to get mirrors fitted to my new rig - a Ford Ranger (yeah, I know, a come down but there were personal reasons for the change).

Anyhow, Clearview are looking for a new test vehicle. You get a discount on the product if you have a donor vehicle. If you live around Craigieburn in Melbourne it might be worth your while to donor your vehicle (call Dion at ClearView on 8351 9933).

And, apart from being a customer I have no connection with Clearview - I just love their mirrors (pricey but worth it when towing). The only downside is that you lose some functionality such as the folding in and puddle lights.

If the Clearviews are permanent and don't allow the mirrors to fold then I wouldn't be able to get the D4 into the garage anymore, and it will be going in and out the garage a hell of a lot more than it will tow a van.

At least they don't go bouncing down the road if you have the safety restraints connected.

They're not "fixed" - they can be manually pushed into a folded position. They don't have a motor that folds them when you lock up, or vice versa. Having said that they do seem larger than oem mirrors so even folded up you may have an issue in the garage.

Also they have an extended and a normal position. Normal position is used when you are not towing. When you want to tow you pull the mirrors out into an extended position just as if you attach towing mirrors. What is really good is that they have two mirrors on each side. The top one is connected to the mirror switching and can be adjusted from inside the vehicle. This saved me a lot of arguments with SWMBO who got snakey with me each time I need the passenger side adjusted. They also have a smaller wide-view mirror at the bottom which is great for a better view of traffic in adjacent lanes. They do need to be manually adjusted.

Yeah, been there with the Milenco's

I've had the ORA for a little while and they folded in with the slightest breeze, even with the support arm thing to stop it doing that.
Recently changed to the Milencos Grand Aero and drove 7000km without taking them off (or falling off) including on Meerenie Loop Road, Binns Track etc. More than happy with them.

I have been using the Milenco Aero 2 Mirrors for the 3 years I have owned my D4.

I know some members have had issues with these.
I have done a number of trips including a quick trip to Central Australia last June/July. I was travelling at the speed limits with many road trains etc passing the opposite direction and a variety of dirt roads and my Aero 2 Mirror's did not move.
I am more then happy with the Milenco Aero 2 Mirrors.

Go to somewhere like Qld. Diesel Spares and get a pair of small West Coast mirrors. Problem solved permanently.
