Dual stage hydraulic jack

I have one of the 12ton 2 stage jacks with a home made adaptor on the top. To use it you have to start with a lean outwards because as you jack the D4 into the sky (chassis nearly half a metre off the ground) the jack leans over. The lean does not inspire confidence. I thought about this long and hard and have found a solution I am happy with, I have bought a trolley jack with a 90mm start height and a 300mm x 600mm x 5mm piece of aluminium plate. The jack fits under the "A" arm next to the wheel at the front or the back of the D4 when the tyre is dead flat and is easy and stable to operate. The jack must have a 90mm minimum height to fit under the front "A" arm. The jack came in a blow mould case, it is a bit bulky but is so much safer that the scissor jack or bottle jack alternative because you are not jacking the car up so high.:)

Bear in mind,when we did our GOE day,Gordon pointed out if your D3/D4 drops to the bump stops the only jack that will fit under the thing is the factory one.Its OK if you can dig a hole to get the jacking started,many situations where you cant.
The factory jack is a piece of crap,I would stil retain it for emergency use;););););)

I had a situation just recently where I had flat tyre whilst 4WDing. Pulled out the factory jack and fitted in the appropriate jacking point, but as the scissor was close to being closed up, I couldn't put enough torque on the handle to jack up the Disco without turning the handle into a twistie. I lubricated the screw (with the only thing I had - cooking oil) with the same result.

The point is that even if it is the only jack that will fit under the car, It is still just as useless as the one that doesn't fit.

I then used a borrowed jack from my brothers Pajero under the Kaymar rear step lifting the car a few more inches so the Disco scissor opened up a little more and could be used. Even then, I considered the Disco to be far too unstable on the standard jack at a height that enabled a wheel change to be safe. I ended up with the Pajero jack under the wishbone to get the job done. The issue of course is that the Pajero Jack (like most other jacks) doesn't fit under the wishbone if the tyre is flat. (It was able to be removed with the properly inflated spare in place!)

I can't believe that Landrover thought that this scissor, body lift jack was a suitable solution for the D3/D4. Totally / utterly unbelievable

This looks like a good - if bulky - solution. An aluminium trolley jack would save some of the weight.

I never had an issue with the Nissan jack in the Patrol!

I had 2 flats on the way back to Perth from Cape Leveque. I rounded the extended arm of the winder and had to wind the jack up at close quarters to the body -- a really big effort, few females would have managed1600 km from Perth. The second flat I borrowed an hydraulic jack and and some wooden chocks under the wishbone-- much easier. I have now purchased a 2 stage jack which I store under the middle row of seats-- works easily!

Have you air suspension and if so was the jack under the wishbone any problem at all ?? Thanks Al

Buy a second hand Discovery 2 jack, cheaper and has the perfect top for using on the D3/D4.

Any idea where I could get one in Perth? Or should I just look for anyone wrecking a Disco 2?

I have been looking for a while for a small, 2 stage hydraulic jack suitable for a D4. There are a lot of single stage jacks around but these are not suitable. I would be interesting in hearing more about this new jack from Sydney.

Here ya go, merc sprinter jack, too tall if you ask me, D2 jack is shorter, fits under the car easier.
