When I first got the car, I was using a Scanguage. That showed me the computer was always out by around 1. I no longer use the scanguage, but also haven't really taken much notice of the figures since - it usually just sits on the the ol' standard odometer or trip meter A.

It also doesn't help that I work from home, so most trips during the week are within a 3km radius. I'll never get good economy when I don't stretch it's legs. Towing economy is only a little above non-towing when you look at the graph over the 90 odd full tanks because of that - the last 10 up at 18 l/100 was really due to towing against 80km winds for a while that it went through the roof....

When I have a run down to Phillip Island - a few hundred km return, no towing - I've deliberately reset the computer then and had between high 8s and low 10s, so really 9s to 11s. I'm fine with that....:)

I was able to do a day's 900 km round trip to visit family in my D2 without refuelling but can't get more than about 720 out of my 3.0 D4 before the light comes on. Not worth the inconvenience of a RWC to fit an extra tank though.

Exactly my thoughts not worth the pain of getting an extra tank and the costs around it but i would just like an extra 15 to 20L would be perfect in my eyes no biggie ill get over it just something i wouldn't mind!! i guess to get the massive rear space with floor folding seats and spare wheel under neath you have to forgo some things.

I had three TD5 D2's and they all got better fuel economy than my D4 ever has,around town or on a run.

If i really needed a long range tank,i would have the spare either tied against the cargo barrier or on the roof.And probably risk driving around town with no spare,as i run LT's.

I have a RWC because I got it cheaply but its only fitted occasionally to carry a 2nd spare. I could live with the RWC permanently fitted if an aux tank was really needed but no remote area trips (yet) and infrequently tow a van.

Road trip from SW Vic across to west Gippsland and back with a bit of city stop start thrown in. The average consumption on the computer got down to 6.4 l/100. Even with the computer error that is very impressive.

Mine may have been poor fuel quality.This tank is back to 9.7L/100 indicated on a trip to Perth/around Perth for a few days/back home as all the others have been.
I realise 1L/100km indicated isnt much.Im happy if I can keep a behemoth like this below 10L/100 average.

I'm very happy with a actual average of 14 litres per hundred in my D4. ... ;)

That's on a average, for me, combined town and country driving cycle, if its just long distance freeway driving then 11.5 l/100 is the actual accurate average. It was a bit better than that prior to fitting A/T's.

I don't mind admitting that I find it hard not to drive the D4 with some enthusiasm, meaning a heavy right foot. If I drove with some restraint I reckon the town / country cycle would be at least 10% to 15% better and I reckon possibly 5% to 10% better for highway driving. I drive at 36 f 38 r tyre pressures.
