    Auto-safe half-height cargo barrier

Well that was fast. Delivery from the UK remarkably quick and installation very easy. Only had the idea two weeks ago from this thread!

It fits well with my Drifta rear drawer unit already in place, as you can see in the photos.

In this photo you can see how the barrier is held in place.
Note the rod that goes down to the rear tie-down point which in my case is shared with the rear drawers that are held down using turnbuckles to the tie-downs.

And finally, looking towards the front from tailgate you can see the other mounting bar that simply rests on the pillar.

Seems a good sturdy product that is a neat fit.

    Cheers,
    Scott

    impact rating?

the travall.com.au site is clear about the barriers not having been tested to Australian Standards but is there any indication of their rating in other markets? They certainly don't look as robust as a Milford etc but probably lighter too, and obviously any kind of mesh cage is way better than none!

Has anyone put one in a RRS? Cheers!

    Autosafe barrier

I am paying $625 (plus fitting) for a full height barrier in Bunbury. When I priced a half height barrier a couple of months ago, it was about the same price. I spoke to Autosafe in Melbourne who said that the half height barrier used the same frame as the full barrier, they just don't install the mesh in the lower area.

It was not worth me specifically ordering a half height barrier. I am getting a full barrier installed and then I intend to cut out a lower section in the centre and fold down the centre seat only when required.

The child seat restraints are in the back of the rear seats, so the belts do not need to go through the barrier itself.
Its been a while but I got around to taking a few photos of my modified barrier today as I had the barrier out while I used the rear seats. Whilst I do not have any drawers to cater for, I wanted a "half height" or similar hole so I could still carry long items when required.

I bought a full height barrier which came with the frame as shown. All I had to do was cut out the mesh in the lower hole and I also welded up a few mesh rods to the frame so it was all solid again. I gave it a new coat of paint as the cutting and welding damaged the paint and it was easier to give it all a fresh coat rather than trying to match the original grey colour. I believe that the factory Autosafe barrier has the same cut out when requested.

    Anyway, works for me....

    Cheers,
    Chris

I wondered about this as well as I'm thinking of getting one.

I checked the .com and .co.uk Travall websites and there is no mention of them meeting any standards (that I could see).

I just had a quick google and found this document :
    [ame="http://www.fta.co.uk/export/sites/fta/_galleries/downloads/loading_of_vehicles/technical_reference_on_cargo_restraint.pdf"]http://www.fta.co.uk/export/sites/fta/_galleries/downloads/loading_of_vehicles/technical_reference_on_cargo_restraint.pdf[/ame]

Page 52 mentions a few standards for "Partitioning Systems" including AS/NZS 4034.

If I get time over the weekend I'll have a proper investigation and might shoot an email off to the Travall Head Office and ask the question.

    Cheers

I bit the bullet and ordered one yesterday, says it's arriving 10th Nov!
Mine will actually be for keeping the dog in the back, but also light loading when camping for things such as pillows and sleeping bags (the last thing packed).

I received a very quick reply from Travall regarding what standards the barriers conform to.......

    Thank you for your email.
The design of our dog guards complies with standard ECE R17, and that ASG Group, parent company of Travall and manufacturer of the dog guards, complies with ISO standards ISO9001:2008, ISO14001:2004 and ISO/TS16949: 2009.

You can find more information about this in the following link:

Quality Assurance | ASG Group |

Our dog guard can be used as a barrier but as it is stated on our website please note that it has not been tested to Australian Standard 4034.2:2008.

    I hope this helps.

For more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Kind Regards,

    Smile Re: Travall Guard

I was very impressed with the photo's and descriptions posted regarding the Travall Guard.

I was even more impressed when the guard I ordered Friday evening arrived this morning - less than 5 days from Derby, UK through Germany, France, US, Sydney, Melbourne to rural South Gippsland!

It often takes longer for something to arrive just from Melbourne!

Installed in less than 30 minutes, very happy thus far.
