Just before Performance Wheels closed late last year I brought six of their 17" rims which are exactly the same model and maximum legal off set as the 17's I have on the D3. They will eventually fit on the D4 with a couple of small mods, which will happen when we decide to use the D4 for touring.
I like the look of the black BB6 17" rims and with BFG KM2's fitted they have proven, for me anyway, to be a good combination of rim and tyre for off roading.
Mines got Gmax M168. I've also found them online by the name of Bona Fide

So am I reading this correctly, most are running 265 65 17 and a 265 70 17 will fit?
I'm about to run 22's as the every day rims for the missus and was looking to put a mud sand tyre for off-road ing on some 17 or 18's, and still wand to keep it a commonly/ easily sourced size.

The issues with tyre size are mostly to do with the rear air conditioning if you have that. There is some componentry in the rear wheel arch that creates a bump that reduces the clearance somewhat and the 265/70 will rub on it. The 245/70 is ok but I am not sure of the 265/65. Apparently it can eventually rub right through the plastic wheel arch and damage things.

The 245's won't rub, the 265's will rub.
All D3 / D4's have the seam at the front of the rear wheel arch.
It can be either folded over or trimmed.
Folding over is easy if you don't have rear AC as the coolant lines run next to the seam.
If you have rear AC then it is better to trim the drivers side seam and relocate the coolant lines, the passenger side one can be folded over.

I got rear A/C and theres no issues with the 265/65/17's, they are around the same dia as the 245/70/17's - 776mm
I use 265/65/17 LT tyres when towing our caravan.
Re fuel consumption, the larger the tyre diameter the worse the consumption will be. Think of a lever 500mm long with 1kg on one end and you keeping it level while holding the other end then make the lever 1000mm long and its a lot harder to keep level, its the same as increasing the distance from the axle to the tyre tread with a larger dia tyre.

I never experienced any rubbing on my D4 with rear air with the 265/70s on, hence why I was going back to that size, but that tip will help if I do, thanks Rich.Quote:
