If I could have condensed it while still conveying the emotion I would've. Better go back to that Mad Magazine :p

Brave or just blind faith ? When a car even older did the trip without so much as a hiccup who would've thought !?
Actually ... Not just the lemon, but the whole bloody tree !!! Great quote !
Don't let this scare the anyone out of contemplating the purchase of a LD3. They really are amazing machines. Its every bit the hit & miss affair that comes with owning ANY vehicle. Read the kind posts of many who have experienced similar (perhaps not as bad as me but on par with Sumo). Hey what can be said ? I've been kissed on the 'proverbial' my entire automobile purchasing life with the exception of a 1975 Ford Falcon XB sedan bought here in Alice age 20 the driven all the way to Melbourne, thrashed mercilessly and then gave up a push rod around Coober Pedy SA return trip...Hey...**** happens !
Oh yeah....I still think (much to my missus disdain) a petrol is far more predictable (even after all this) cheaper to service and beyond not knowing diesels I can do all the basic stuff myself. The grade of Diesel sold here is at best atrocious ! So REALLY regular servicing is a hell of a price to pay for that extra 250+ km per tank combined cycle...
Moral of the story: run away from 2nd hand cars without logbook service history! Maintenance is a must on these beasts. I'm really surprised it lasted that long - maybe the previous elderly owner was changing the oil himself and the new owner didn't? Without records - we'll never know.
Make sure they change the ATF, T/C and diff oils as well - to start from a known point. Then maintain it from there on.
Good luck on a trouble-free run from here on.
I could almost agree with your comparison sir, if it wasn't for the fact I work in Commercial Radio LOL & we all know about job security there !
Thanks again, great advice from all & beyond...Yup Yup Yup the good ol Citibank CC is gonna get a work out like its never been swiped before this ! The good ol boys at British Off Road Sunny Coast are a sharp bunch and respectable in their labor charges, I indeed will take EVERY opp to cover these & many other bases as the re-birth continues.
One thing the engine swap will deliver is an inventory of spare accessories such as A/C compressor, alternator, coil packs, plug leads starter motor, (possibly-) engine mounts etc etc... Oh yeah...There's gonna fair raping of the old boat-anchor !
Hi Sumo,
For whatever reasons I also got a Toyo 4.7 V8, great sound.......... I bought mine from a dealer, service book all up to date etc etc etc. As I drove off the lot they advised me that the vehicle had done 151,000 and required that the timing belt was due for replacement, I had a great discussion with them about them telling me that the service book was up todate, everything fine and yet the timing belt needed changing.
They then pestered me for at least a couple of months to book the vehilce in to get the timing belt changed advising me that if I didn't the warranty was voided etc. I took the chance and ordered a timing belt kit from the US including all the little extra things you are supposed to do for a third of the price they were going to charge me here.
For me everything worked out in my favor. As for Dr Drone, gee whizzer what a tale, as mentioned good job it was a petrol and not a diesel, soooooo glad I've also got the petrol.
