Engine Watchdog on D3
hi all,
Is there any point in fitting a engine watchdog low coolant monitoring system on a D3? not sure if the vehicles water temp is any good or a must on these vehicles. do they have their own warning light/sound if low coolant?
Tdv6 S spec d3. purchased TM1 (engine watchdog) for D2a Td5, need to remove the Tdv6 engine cover to see where to mount, less obvious then the Td5. cheers

The D4 has a low coolant light as mine was going off the other week. Turned out to be a faulty sensor.
The D3 will be the same I'm sure.

Hi Shamirj,
The D3 does have a low coolant sensor in the header tank for want of a better description, however when my plastic outlet housing cracked the coolant level remained at a level in the header tank whilst the actual water level in the engine itself was dropping. Thankfully the smell of hot coolant in the V of the engine alerted me to something being wrong. I found the problem before I toasted the engine.
As mentioned by lpj I also had a faulty sensor, this is / was a quite common failure in the D3. A complete new header tank is the go they are or at least were cheap enough. Make sure you read the coolant filling procedure carefully it is a little bit different than what would be regarded as normal.

thx
thx for replies, i may then just add the engine watchdog given its sitting around then. cant hurt having it mounted on the engine block somewhere. have not looked closely at the header tank though looks complicated, will read up the procedure. thx again

where did you put it?
G'Day Shamirj,
Wondering if you got around to doing this little install with the watchdog? Ive got one now also, as I'm very keen on it as a feature, but just not sure where best/easy enough to get it mounted, soo much on top of these engines, worried ill mess it up. Anyone else installed one in a D3 tdV6? any hints or photos?
Cheers and thanks all!
