Try Meguairs paint cleaner. I'm surprised that the detailer hasn't tried it though.
I have just returned from a week on Fraser, but after washing the salt and sand off I now have salt water marks on the bonnet that I can't move. I had it detailed, and they tried a mild cut, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

You may have to clay bar it.
Will take a while, but the results will be brilliant.
I like the Bowdens Own range of products. Aussie made gear too.
When you look at their web site, and see the cars they have in their collection, it gives you a sense of security that they wont damage your pride & joy.
Fitzy, sorry to shift away from your question. I'm heading to Fraser this weekend and thought since you've just come back I'd ask you for a quick report
Anything worth mentioning? Recent storms caused any notable erosion?
Anywhere more chopped up than usual.. etc.
Thanks in advance.
David

Fraser has lots of sand on most of the beach but hook point is accessible only about an hr either side of low tide, otherwise it's up the centre track. I went all the way to Sandy Cape without any problems, so it's probably the best I have seen for years. Enjoy!
Ill agree bowdens own is great stuff try there body cleanser and one of their applicator pads and see if that will move it!!
Unfortunately nothing has moved it, tried it all. It is now booked in for "wet sanding" and buffing tomorrow. I went to two different detailers and got the same response so hopefully it will fix it.
A lot more polish will be used next time I go on the beach, although I have been on the beach for 35 years and never had this before!
Might be a good idea to add a polymer sealant to strengthen the surface. Something like Gyeons but with all the steps such as snow lance wash, clay all over, polish, prep and then the Gyeons. This will repell it next time.
Clay will only remove build up, but if it's etched into the paint then some paint restoration is the only way.
Good luck.
Brett....
Is this a common issue? Just about to have my new D4 delivered and said no to the paint protection, it will see the beach a couple of times a year and would hate to think the paint will get ruined.
Generally, the so called paint protection offered by car dealers is not much more than a good polish.
You can achieve the same result yourself, by building up layers of wax.
I waxed mine 2 or 3 times a week for about a month. Each time, it was quicker to do than the last, as it would just glide on easily.
The build up will protect from bugs & water stains, much the same, if not better, than the paint protection offered.
Why not ask them what it involves, and what products are used, and how they are applied.
And yes, if you dont have some sort of protective barrier, such as wax, then the salt or sand can "etch" into the paintwork. Or more correctly, usually into the clear coat over the top.
