Anyone had success with aftermarket shockies

    Gday All,

I remember reading a thread from TerryO ( I think ) about his not so successful attempt at using aftermarket shockies. Was just wondering if anyone has had success in finding some.. whatever brand, and how they are going.

I would say my D3 is not far from needing some replacements, but seems a waste to have to buy the complete unit with airbag.

    Cheers Ean

Only rear ones Ean, Terry had Koni, they didn't last Geedublya had Bilstein shocks(I think) maybe, anyway, the fronts failed, but the rears kept going from memory, Bilstein stopped making them but Koni are still in development, nothing yet last time I looked, there is a UK based aftermarket shock, that's a bit cheaper, the name escapes me(Delfi mayby) search the Disco3.uk site.

I'm keeping an eye out too, for when mine need replacing.

    Cheers Baz.

I'm using allmakes pr (Dunlop bags and Delphi shocks). They've done about 35,000km I think and are holding up fine. They're a little stiffer than standard I think but handle well. I'm happy enough with them.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the Delphis (less control than genuine D3 shocks) and have genuine D4 fitted now, being bare shocks from a UK seller.

Yes, the latest D4s from Duckworths last December for 586 GBP for 4 incl air freight. Ride-wise they're about mid-way between MY09 D3 and the original D4s which IMO had excessive re-bound damping. These give the best all-round ride of the 4 different sets that have been fitted.

Front LR013930, rear LR038095, noting that early D3s use different shocks possibly due to different rear mounts.

Don't get Delphi D3 shocks. My indi got them for me from the UK and they were softer than my old worn D4 rear shocks. I thought he was getting D4 shocks at the time but they don't seem to be available. I will do what Graeme did soon I think. My fronts are still original at 180,000 and are not that bad but I will replace them with new shock/air bag assemblies and the rears with just shocks when I get around to it.
