I still find it amusing, that LR have higher load ratings for the tyres than the wheels!

Now what other cars take this size and we can go to their forums and promote.

Some of the current crop of Jap/Thai utes take this size, but it may only be an option.

There's also a 265/65R18 Duratrac with a higher load rating of 114 if you're interested. This is the same load rating as the Bridgestone D697's that everyone was raving over for a while. Although the Duratrac's are deemed oversize, they don't rub and can be shoehorned into the spare wheel compartment. The Americans love these on their LR3's and LR4's. I would too if I could get them for $200 like they can!

Its all relative... They earn ~20% less (avg) - their manufacturing is in country / freight costs lower.. Ship half way across the world and that tyre starts to be around $250+freight+Customs+GST so easily $350, then add the 'bent over a barrel' cost of volume vs distance shipping within Aus and $400 comes up really quick...

A point worth a mention: The Duratrac in this size does rub - and they run rods all the time or adjust the guards to suit..

Having run duratrac on the work vehicles - they are a pretty good all round tyre...

The 'Australia Tax' will always be a contentious issue, whether it be related to tyres, computers or cheeseburgers.

Did you mean the 275/65R18 when you said they will rub and need full time rods? The 265/65R18 is the same diameter as a 285/60R18 at 31.5" which most people successfully fit without rods and only negligible rubbing on full lock in reverse.

This chap has the 265/65R18 Duratracs on his Compomotive 18" wheels and uses no rods:

With the stock tyres being around 30" and the maximum we can have is 31.5" without modifying the vehicle, we certainly are limited for choice with tyres compared to other vehicle brands. But, I still wouldn't choose any other vehicle

    Bloody hell...

Best thing I ever did was take BFG A/Ts *off* my vehicles.

Certainly wouldn't pay anywhere near that for the over rated things they are...

Couple of guys here have just fitted a different size of them, I'm watching with interest.

Side note: just spent Saturday evening rock crawling the D4 on a Night Nav... Full road pressures (was based around city surrounds and had a couple of transit stages) - the tyres don't have a mark on them - no chipping, block tears, or damage.

Choice is great, only if the products are worth it...
