Can almost feel your disappointment Simon. Sorry to see this happen. Time to invest in a diagnostic tool mate. If nothing else, it might keep you going that bit further and avoid the tow truck should something else happen in the future.
Unfortunately the cae is still at the dealer. They found the problem, being the crank sensor has failed. downside is they need to drop the gearbox to get to it. glad this is under warranty - it sounds like an expensive operation to swap out a sensor...
