D4 HSE. Fyrlyt Nemesis installation advice please.

This shows the bracket, the transformers and the relays secured to the left side of the engine bay in front of the battery box. [The SC80 is part of my rear Andersen plug, rear 2nd battery setup as per Traxide and is nothing to do with the Nemesis.]

Now, looking from the right to show the relays and the wiring. I have used heavier wiring than the 6mm recommended for some of the connections. I know it looks like spaghetti, but the wiring diagram is easy to follow and it is made to look complex because there is two of everything. A completely separate circuit for each light.

This is my light switch cluster. The driving light switch has been reused from my old spotties. (It is quite a nice switch and it looks like it is OEM)

This is to show that I followed the instructions and have used a torque wrench to set the clamp at the correct tension. It is actually much tighter than an Allen Key could achieve.

As for aiming, have you heard of the term "point & shoot"?

Provided the lights are pointing forward, that is pretty much all you need to do with them. Gone are the days of finding a great big stretch of dark road, and hoping no-one comes along while you are trying to set your spotties.

And you will love how easy they are to swap from spot to spread beam.. ;)

It's great to dip and not have any vision delay.

And then to strike them up and the world lights up!

Looking good. My only suggestion / concern would be to mount the relays vertically, not horizontally as they appear to be. In the past I have had trouble with water ingress and relays jamming on when mounted horizontally.

Thanks BigJon, I was wondering about possible problems with mounting the relays on their sides. In my ignorance I assumed it would be ok. I will see how they go for now. If they develop a problem or misbehave I will work out a way to reorient their replacements.

I have been driving in the hills tonight and have seen so much more wildlife....I have slowed down. Seriously, I could not be happier.

Throughout the thread above I have mistakenly referred to the two "transformers". I have since been educated (thanks Dad) that transformers are an alternating current device. The two devices I have installed are accurately referred to in the Fyrlyt instructions as "converters".

I apologise for this error. How did the (other) pedants let me get away with the mistake?

PS @ BigJon:
David at Fyrlyt agrees that the relays should be installed up the right way to reduce the risk from water / moisture damage. To do this easily, a slightly longer bracket would be appropriate. I will make the modification when I next get some play time in the shed.

Step-up transformers - convert DC to AC using an oscillator (inverter), transformer to step up the AC voltage then these may or or may not convert AC back to DC (rectifier).

Hi Jock,

Ring Fyrlyt direct, and speak to Paul or David. I am not 100%, but I am fairly sure you can buy direct from them.

If not, they will point you in the direction of a re-seller.

And, if you want a hand to install these little beauties, give me a yell.

I bought mine direct - dealt with Paul over the phone. ;)
