I'm new to this site, but have had my 2009 D3 TDV6 HSE for almost 5 years.
Just before Easter I had to have it towed because there were messages flicking on the dash, indicators were going crazy so I turned the car off at a set of lights and couldn't get it going again - no hazard lights, nothing would work. Turned out to be a faulty alternator which I had replaced.
After picking the car up from the repairer (LR Specialist but not LR dealer), the car had an error come up on the dash HDC fault limited gears available and lost power. I phoned the repairer who told me to turn the car off, double lock it, unlock it and start it again then take it straight back to him. I did that and he told me it was a faulty low pressure fuel pump which he replaced. Drove it out of the repairer and the same message appeared!! Took it back and was then told that the high pressure fuel pump needed replacing.
Took it to a LR dealer this time and was told the same thing so had the high pressure fuel pump replaced in the last week, picked the car up Friday and not 100 metres down the road the same message appeared.
I am at my wits' end!! I've spent thousands of dollars having all these things replaced and still have the same issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions???

Funny you should say that Jonesy. After I had the alternator replaced and the car played up I had a friend follow me to the repairer and he noticed that one of my brake lights wasn't working.
It's actually quite common, see links below. The Disco3 thread provides a wealth of detail for replacing the switch yourself, plus a couple of threads from this forum.

Disappointing that the LR specialists didn't look to this more straightforward and inexpensive likely root cause. You'll note a couple of other possible causes in these threads but the brake switch and bulbs would be the one to chase down first I think.

hi guys, I did get the HDC fault, changed battery, fault came back just once after that and did not appear after that. However, in the mean time I ordered the brake light switch, should I go ahead and replace the brake light switch though I don't seem to get the HDC fault anymore??
If you didn't replace the battery when it was flattened by the failed alternator then that battery is likely to not have been holding charge any more. Hence fitting the new battery, once properly charged, may put an end to the faults.

yep, you are right Graeme, the battery was at fault as it was not holding enough charge so hence replaced battery. I have read some comments on other threads that it is better to replace the brake light switch in advance than to wait for the HDC fault. so not sure if I should just hold on to the replacement switch and change it when the situation requires or should I be more proactive and replace it now. is it that arcing of the brake light switch inevitable?
I wouldn't change it yet because the new one will need replacing just that much sooner. May as well get the most of out each one especially as it doesn't take long to change.

Most often these faults appear due to a faulty/low battery, failing alternator or failing starter motor. LR will start by replacing the low cost items and they often discount the brake switch and tail light bulbs as a cause and I think they are pretty right in that regard. Those sometimes fix the fault but often don't.
LR are now saying it's the EGR valve that's causing the issue. They've replaced it. I'm just wondering if this is an easy fix and something they should have looked at prior to replacing the low pressure fuel pump and the high pressure fuel pump? I'm getting so frustrated!!!!!
