That would be much appreciated if you could.

That would be much appreciated if you could.
I've started my install today by taking the plastic bar off and removing the reversing sensors ready to fit to the Kaymar. I haven't done a test fit yet but the instructions say to paint the exposed areas below the tail lights with black paint. My car is Buckingham Blue (very dark) and I'm wondering if I really need to paint (don't mind either way - just saves buying paint and some time if I don't). I haven't been able to find decent close up photos of the area in question to see what the effect is. If anyone has any pics they would like to share of their rear bars and thoughts re painting or not would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Oz,
Seems you're doing the same task as I have done some 5 years ago. I hope the photo's help. I found when fitting the Mitch the fit required patients {which I don't have a lot of LOL}. Grind out the burr of the inside of the hitch point attached to the vehicle, assuming the design is still the same, before attempting any fit. I think I spent about 4 hours on it in the end. Also setting the rear sensors is alot easier with 2 people if you can get them set at all. Due to the modified swing arm on mine they can't be set to avoid everything and no-one has been able to disable the rear sensors, so it requires turning off the alarm every time the car is started.
hope this helps
regards
Brian
PS. as you can see my car is also Buckingham blue, so I didn't think it requires painting.
Here's another thing you may find helpful. When I first fitted mine and made the rear mud flaps to suit, I had left a 25-30mm gap between the top of the mud flap and the bottom of the rear wheel arch plastic flare {where the yellow circle is}. This, as can be seen in the photo, was a very silly mistake. Over the years of offroad work, the stones have clearly left there mark:(. The problem was rectified on the next set of mud flaps as per this photo, with the latest set just fitted.
Thanks Brian
I have factory rear flaps. I'll check today re the clearance but from memory they go up fairly high.
I had already gone through the learning curve of fitting the Mitch Hitch several months ago when I purchased a second hand one. It seems as though it must be an earlier model which doesn't slide all the way into the bar slot. It will be interesting to see how I go with the reversing sensors, hopefully I will be able to adjust them correctly.
I also see you have a double jerry can holder. I was looking to do the same but Kaymar said their double holder does not fit the D3 bar. Is yours a modified unit?
Cheers
Matt
Hi Matt,
Sorry mate I didn't read all your posts so missed that you'd done the hitch previously.
The twin Jerry can swing arm was a Kaymar single that I modified to hold 2 custom made Jerry cans @ 32ltrs each. If I was to do it again I would do it slightly differently but it was easy enough to do. The extra capacity and versatility means over 1000k's fuel range, hence avoided having to buy a long range tank.
When you said you have factory mud flaps is that a Kaymar mud flap or Landrover factory mud flap??
regards
Brian
My mud flaps are Land Rover factory that were on my D3 when I bought it. They do come up the side higher. The bar is on and I've wired up the led lights and all seems to be working. I still haven't tackled the Mitch Hitch yet as I want to get primer and paint etc before cutting and grinding. Unfortunately the reverse sensors will need adjusting however I'm not sure yet what can be done to adjust them as all the parts clip in to keyed holes on the bar.:confused::confused:
I'll get some pics and post in the next few days.
