Thread: Seat Cover Repair - Any Success?

My D4 HSE (2010 / 106,000 kms, Almond Windsor leather) has an almost invisible crack in the side (where the leather flexes) and some wear on the edge. I've ordered the new piece, which is around A$500 ex UK. Local dealer was over $900. Expensive, but the rest of the interior is mint. I've just ordered a new D4 (delivery late January) and I will install seat covers this time. Keeping my current D4 as well, so want to keep it in great condition.

i have a similar thing happening on the leather around to passenger air bag on top of the dash. The outline where the aibag is is starting to split along the hidden seam.


I'd be surpsied if anything can be done as so can "patch" over that airbag. Cost of the new dash top would be prohibitive!

Have you all been treating your seats? As in leather / vinyl treatments?

And are you lowering the vehicle each time you park? Or have you looked into the simple action of getting in and out of the vehicle? Small, easy changes may solve your issues.. (Apologies if a medical condition etc impedes)

Nope - I am fit and 188cm so getting in and out is not a problem.

I keep the seats clean with a regular wipe over. I have put some leather conditioner on once or twice. I am 99% sure that the material in this location is fake-leather i.e. vinyl.

This is definitely an issue where the compression of rolling into the seat cuts the seat cover against the plastic trim or handle. This is a non-electric seat car.

You can see that there is a different fabric lower but IMHO it should come up a bit higher.

I have the autoglynn products from the UK which I find quite good, leather cleaner and leather balm.


I also just wipe down with a clean cloth a water from time to time.


Mine are holding up quite well so far. 2007 MY08 D3 TDV6 SE.


At least I no longer have to worry about ex wife's fat backside on them anymore hehehe

This happened to my D3 and D4 - by end of warranty. Both had new seat bases installed at the end of warranty. Both have been cleaned/treated too. Design flaw, imho.

Is the dashboard fabric leather or vinyl?

London to a brick I would bet it is synthetic. A lot of vinyls are killed in the making of a modern car!
