    The man I assume was the prop of one of the smash repairers I visited today, gave me a brief list of insurance companies to consider when purchasing insurance. I guess this list is from a repairer's perspective not a customer price or service perspective.

    Interestingly he suggested that NRMA were in the middle of the possible list and some of the big names were in the don't consider list. At least one of the names surprised me.

    The three companies at the top of the do consider list were:
    1. Zurich
    2. CGU
    3. (dare I say it) Toyota Insurance

    I started the claim over the phone yesterday expressing my dissatisfaction about being left stranded with a disabled trailer.

    The operator was pleasant, in Australia and cooperative. She did ask that I consider one of their partner repairers. I took the vehicle for assessment to Monza Smash in Villa Marika this morning. The premises was clean, very professional and all the staff were wearing company uniforms, polo shirts and trousers apart from one who I assume was a spray painter wearing a T shirt. The few vehicles present appeared that the work was being undertaken professionally.

    NRMA say there is a lifetime warranty on the repairs and other benefits if I use their partner repairer. I'm hoping there will be less hassles using their repairer.

    I think I'll wait for the finished job before I make any negative assessments of NRMA (apart from the trailer issue).

    I suspect that the trailer stability control kicked in. When the vehicle came to a standstill, there were numerous errors indicating, including stability control. All errors cleared after a re-start.

    that was a hell of a shunt to spin a nearly 3 ton car and trailer around like that. He must have been moving when he lost it.


    Vehicles can be fixed so fortuntely no injuries. Hope the repairs go well.

    I partially spun my old D4 when I aquaplaned at highway speed and all the stuff went bananas ... which saved me from a very nasty accident.

    Despite being out of directional control (under the control of dissipating physical forces) I actually didn't feel like it was going to roll or anything like that.

    So while entrapment wires and concrete barriers were variously looming at me, I felt somewhat safe.

    Was that because of the stability control? Maybe?

    Not good Diana, I'd be taking Boooojay Direct to court to recover trailer costs including towing. The towed vehicle should always be covered...

    We all use Shannon's these days, the tow vehicles, car trailers and Veterans are covered by them, including my RRC and Discovery. But anything we tow is automatically covered anyway... And as such I believe a third party insurer needs to cover you to the same degree if their client caused damage to your property.

    Shame Corbans won't touch it, Caldwells are gone now so we no longer have a good contact in the industry (I even have all their old LR stock). But why are you claiming through NRMA? Shouldn't it just be a third party claim with budget?

    Hope they can fix it all up properly... push for trailer replacement.

    Blair at Corban's advised to deal through NRMA when he heard the name of the other insurer. My concerns are for Geoff (the Booger) who's trailer it is.

    There's so many bent bits on the trailer, I'd be surprised if they don't write it off.

    It may be a good thing, if the deck is straight and Geoff buys it back, we may upgrade it to a 3.5T ATM so we can tow D3 and D4 legally (I haven't had one on it, but I know it did happen a year or so ago.)

    Although thinking about it. BD has to pay for the repairs, they have no claim on the trailer.
