What could they have done to our fuel economy??

I've convinced myself there was a bit too much oil put in the car when it was serviced. When it first happened I checked several times to be sure and the oil was /right/ to the top of the top of the plastic maximum marker.

After about 3000 kms the average economy readings have improved - and I don't think that's just due to the trip computer settling down because I reset it with every fill and it shows -- until some data comes in.

Cleaning the accumulated gunk off the MAP sensors definitely helped based on seat-of-the-pants, MAFs not really, and spraying decarboniser into the intakes /possibly/ improved things but I couldn't be sure.

So I think it was really just a case of burning off a bit of excess oil and cleaning the sensors. Touch wood back to normal programming.

After its most recent service at an independent our car is pulling very nicely and has just returned 10.3 l/100km (trip computer) on a highway run, the previous best I'd seen with roof bars and AT tyres was 11.1.
Apart from a standard oil, filters etc they "serviced" the MAF and I can only assume they did a better job than me and my spray can...

Mine has done 9.2l/100 on long run unloaded quite a few times,with roof rails and A/T tyres.Speed around 100 k's.

Since the power upgrade the best I have done is 9.6/100.Only had one long run so far since the upgrade.

Those figures are worked out myself,as the dash read out is generally around 1l/100 less than actual.

TDV8 is a bit (lot) thirstier. One more thing I miss about the D4. :)

Fuel is cheap! It will take a lot for me to get rid of my TDV8 :twisted:.

Yep when I flick the paddle to drop a cog and go from 90 to 140 with the trailer on in the space of an overtake, I'm not counting the dollars :)

Exactly. I could go and spend $10,000s on something that uses 3/4 of the tdv8, but that would only save me about $300/year. No chance.

If I can sort out the mystery vibration and nurse my bank account back to health I may be tempted to spend just a thousand or so on a decent remap... maybe improved economy, worst case scenario I have more giddyup :)

I have had a similar experiance, pre remap, very low 9s with the same configuration as above doing intersate hauls, around town low 10s. Post remap more like low 10s on the long haul and high 10s in the city, I seemed to have gone backward by about 10%. The main driver for the re-map was to close EGR but disappointed about the increased fuel use.

They are an impressive machine without a remap.
