Also, one would assume that the ABS and stability control on both vehicles would increase the wear, given both systems would be working hard on 700km or dirt at 100-110km/h.
The quote below from Tirerack.com indicates that some people found the KOs wore too quickly on gravel.
All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires feature a racing derived cut-, chip- and tear-resistant tread compound that delivers longer life (up to 2 times the previous generation tire's treadwear on gravel roads).
My BFG A/T are very badly chipped.The rears are the worse,high speed driving on rocky dirt roads caused the issue.
This is compounded by having heavy,powerful,comfortable vehicles that can be driven fast on these types of roads.
Apart from this issue i have had many sets of BFG and never had a problem.First puncture was a coach screw a couple of weeks ago.They are a very tough tyre.
I suppose time will tell if the KO2 does not chip as badly.
Following on from what The Fizz has said,a friends son was badly injured in an ADF G Wagon roll over.The cause was apparently caused by a BFG delaminating.A full report on the accident has not yet been compiled.
Do you know if it was a M/T tyre? I've seen 2 that have delaminated, one on my sister in laws 200 series and one on an ex workmates 78 series landcruiser (troopy) that also ended in a rollover.Quote:

This is true. It's driving them nuts apparently, having to go so slowly. That plus the winches falling off, the sensationally expensive alloy rims that have to be written off as soon as they get more than a surface scratch, and the complete lack of load space compared to the Deefers.Quote:

Ok, so since I started this thread a few weeks ago I've had a chance to test out my new KO2s off-road. I thought I'd try them on some general dirt tracks and also some fairly steep and rocky Vic high country tracks. The bad news is, while I was driving on a quite tame section of track I clipped a cut log that was just on the edge of the track (entirely my fault I just didn't see it).
After very loud bang I inspected the damage. I saw the log that I clipped was part of a much larger fallen tree. On inspection of my car I could see that the front left wheel had been pushed back and was sitting against the guard. I had a look at the damage and could see the lower wishbone had bent (exactly where it should). I tried a few things to straighten it but it wasn't happening. I had no reception and I was not in a recoverable position. I inspected the tyre and rim. The rim was just scuffed a bit and looked fine. I could see that the tyre had pinched between the log and the rim as there were some small cuts in the sidewall and some wood was force into the bead. The tyre still had air in it so given the damage I thought I might as well continue until the tyre was destroyed; this would at least get me to a more recoverable situation.
So anyway, without getting into the details too much, after several hours of slow, smoky and at times extreme diving covering around 80km with the tyre rubbing I was in a recoverable position with phone reception. The inside half of the tyre tread was gone and was just on the ply layers. I did add a bit of air at one point but I realised later that this was just some air coming from where the wood had gotten behind the bead. After I got the car to Melbourne days later the tyre was still inflated.
In summary, I cannot believe the strength of the KO2 tyre carcass. I bought them because I thought they would be strong. They are.

The PD1881 is damaged and has gone out of round. This cannot be repaired and requires replacement.:(
