I have relatives with a newish Grand Cherokee. They tow a big caravan with it and have been all over. They love it. They don't do any off road work as far as I know.

The D4 ZF 6 speed is nice but the ZF 8 speed is better. I would buy as new as possible.

You need to drive both to decide.

It's a tough decision to make. I have actually towed with the jeep as a mate has one and its as been awesome. I love the look of the disco and feel it's better finished off. The issue is there is roughly a 30k price tag between the two when looking new. A brand new grand overland with every option available can be had for about 72k . That money in a disco gets a relatively simple vehicle with around 20kms on it.if I buy the disco I want the sdv6 as on paper the power is the same as the jeep. The standard v6td has lower power figures to the jeep.
Looking at both forums they both have some sort of issues here and there so reliability seems to be same same..

    I wouldn't pay a lot more for a sdv6.

Can the 3lt tdv6 be tuned to have same power specs as the sdv6? Is it a simple plug and play tune

Yes and more too. Check out a few tuners online but remapping is the best method NO plug and play tuning boxes!!!!

Any reason why the Ford Everest is not on your list to consider?

The Ford Territory diesel AWD is an excellent towing vehicle if you don't want to go seriously offroad.

I love my D3 and wouldn't swap it for anything (D4 exc) but just reading a 4x4 mag with the Sept sale figures. D4 189 vs Jeep GC 1361. They're selling like hot cakes.

    Hi JCG1,
Throw caution to the wind and get the RRS TDV8, doesn't need to be new, bit smaller, close to the same fuel consumption and a whole lot more fun........ Just that little bit different..........

Rather push a Land Rover than drive a Jeep.

    Cheers Marty
