It seems to me that it's a money issue which is quite a valid reason. That said, you sound as though you really want a D4. The question then is, will you really be happy with the car you didn't want as your preferred choice and would you buy it if the price difference was not an issue?
I looked at the Jeep when I was in the market for a new car and I had to take a really deep breath to spend the extra for a D4 and it was the most money I've ever paid for a car. I'm very happy that I did as it's by far the best vehicle I've owned.
The extra money is now a distant memory but you should not put yourself in a bad position financially to buy a car. The alternative is to wait until a D4 at the right price and mileage comes along and be prepared to buy it asap. That may of course take a fair time but you could be lucky or be able to save the extra dollars you need during that time.
Good luck with the decision.:)

There are some around like this one.
2013 Land Rover Discovery 4 TDV6 Auto 4x4 MY13
May need to travel to find one.
Money is not an issue really however it's trying to justify the extra dollars as after I test drove the two cars back to back I was comfortable in both. They both have their merits off course . It seemed the jeep had heaps more go than the disco. The jeep even felt more lively than the sdv6. I like the size of the disco and also the comfort of the seats however they are a plain car for what you pay. At least with jeep you get heated seats and steering wheel and sunroof and cooled seats and satnav and ear camera. At the end of the day I think it will be right deal that I get. If a well priced disco comes along I will be sold however am struggling to pay 95k for a hse with no options.
For that sort of money I would step up to something like this.

As its a private import I would be paying up to 10k less.
Or this if you like a sensible colour.

I guarantee you will notice the difference between both JGC & D4 compared to a last run L322 RRV with 700nm of torque, 230kw of power and the White one has a rear diff lock. I wish I had that sort of money.
I have absolutely no idea how accurate it is (yet...;-) ) but I did a redbook forward valuation on my 2012 D4 TDV6. Surprised me that trade in is apparently just over 50% and private sale around 60%.
She's almost 5 now...and all this talk of new cars gets me excited!!!! I have absolutely no doubt the next one will have a green oval logo.
To the OP, good luck with your decision. There are many ways of looking at this exercise, and heavens knows the number of electrons murdered in debating cost of ownership, initial outlay, petrol vs diesel etc.
At the end of the day, you have to be happy (in addition to SWMBO).
You could chalk up miles in that and feel a lot more alive at the end than in a Defender. I love my 110, it's going to be a hard choice when most of my trips are on the black stuff. I don't even air down on the beach anymore in the 3.6 RRV, and the 4.4 RRV has even more grunt. You can see the turmoil I'm in.
