    D4 seat and tailgate questions...

Hi everyone, hoping for some collective wisdom on a couple of things that are bugging me...

I'm a very happy owner of a new D4 SE, but there are two things I am not sure if they are "normal" on the car or not -

    1. Is it normal to 'feel' the mechanics within the drivers seat, such as when going over bumps etc, or moving around? It's not that it's uncomfortable, but can be a little annoying. Does everyone else experience this?

    2. Is it normal for the top tailgate section to be so hard to close? I really have to give it a good hard push to latch it properly, verging on slamming it shut. I really haven't been able to find anything online about it, so I just wasn't sure. The manual only mentions an auto-closing ability, but I do not believe this is included in my model.

So I'm hoping people can put my mind at ease, otherwise a discussion to have with the dealer.

    Thanks,
    Scott.

Sorry Scott, but the answer to both is that it's not normal.

I do not feel anything from the seat itself when going over a bump. That said, I have electric seats and I don't know whether yours are too so it might be different.

The tailgate top sometimes doesn't latch on the first attempt but I wouldn't say I have to slam it shut. I only need to raise it a little bit to shut it again.

    Me Too

    Wot Martin Said!

    1. When I sit on the seat/s I feel comfortable and that's it!

    2. I don't slam and doors including the tailgate!!!!!!!

Take it to where you got it and get it fixed!

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate the info.

Martin - yes, seats are electric, and that's what I'm feeling within the seat. I'm coming from a Santa Fe, and had the same feeling for the last 6 months or so (4 year old car).

The doors also seem a little harder than normal to close, you need to be quite forceful to get them latched properly, there's really no gentle closing of any of the doors.

I guess I'll be having the conversation with them on Monday with a view to have it all sorted out. Obviously being my first D4, I just wasn't sure whether these were just nuances of the car, or something that needs to be fixed.

So thanks again for the feedback .

My tailgate needs to be shut firmly especially if the rest of the doors are shut.

Scott, there is one other thing to try first. Open a side door and see how the tailgate goes. The doors on the Disco are double sealed and it is easier to close any of the doors if another one is open as you are not "compressing" the air inside the car. That said, you should still not have to slam the tailgate to shut it. See what the dealer says but don't let them fob you off. Ask to try the doors on one in the showroom to get a comparison.

Really?!! I've had my D4 for 3 weeks now and I have been slapping the tailgate hard everytime a it doesn't shut properly each time. I thought thats normal. Guess I'll have to bring it back for some work.

I have a MY10 D4, so definitely not new, and I shudder whenever a guest in my car slams a door or tailgate as it is not required.
I think once in the last few months has the tailgate not latched properly on the first go, and that was due to me trying to do it with my elbow as my arms were full.

I reckon this is an excellent idea, maybe even try a couple. I find the tailgate needs a firm shut but no slamming required. We sometimes don't get it quite right first go but it's basically similar to wagon doors on many other vehicles.

What Letherm said, try it with a door or window down a bit. Same goes with all the doors, you only need one window down a inch and I bet all the doors and the rear hatch close easy.

The other thing that can be a pain in a D4 is where they put the grab handle on the front doors, if you are a big bloke it's often hard to close it without hitting your leg with the hand holding the handle and then the door doesn't bloody close.
    Cheers,
    Terry
