Howdy and a faultless ownership experience is rare for almost any vehicle these days. We have seen plenty of 4WD come through our training and rarely is there not a niggle annoying the owner regardless of age.
Yet our TDV6 has just turned one and we have used it in quite challenging 4WD situations as that is why we purchased it. It has towed our Ultimate camper to some pretty interesting campsites and spend up to 10 hours in one day taking us from Adelaide to Coober Pedy.
First service in December the only niggle we had was the poor/lack of performance of the auto wipers. Dealer found the whole sensor pack was not fitted correctly at the factory. Remedied and now works as we expected.
I can't call this ownership experience anything but very satisfactory
Your budget may be the opportunity to pick up a low km version under warranty which is always a nice place to start. Or you could hang off until the D5 is announced and at that point there may be some early adopters who will have trade-ins around. To better understand this market head to Cars Guide as a reasonable start
One thing I can say for us is the ownership experience after 20 years of Toyota 4WD has been a very positive one. As a 4WD trainer and tour operator I have had to re-learn the off-road driving techniques to get the best from the car which I have so far found great fun with plenty more to learn
