Can someone enlighten me of the gen and non genuine sumps being offered on Ebay .

From my understanding - genuine should be made by ZF, non-genuine made by someone else.

One issue to consider is that whatever steel pan is purchased it has a sump plug to make it easier to drain prior to sump removal to get to the filter. HTH.
