Tyre Pressure Monitoring

I run the "Sensatyre" TPMS system, purchased from Landybitz on this forum, in all five wheels, and am very happy with this system.

Originally, I only purchased the system with sensors for four wheels, and was kicking myself for this for a long time. I recently purchased and installed the additional sensor unit - any system which does not / cannot also monitor your spare wheel (especially if the spare is mounted under the vehicle) is in my opinion not worth the money.

The Sensatyre system has internal sensors, secured in place with stainless steel straps. In more than four years with these installed, I have never has one fail (nor have I ever heard of one failing from any of my friends running similar ;)).

You can purchase additional sensors for this system (will monitor up to 14 wheels from memory) and it is very easy to add new sensors into the system, as it also is to change sensor positions on the screen after wheel rotations etc. the system monitors both pressure and temperature, and you can set your own preferred alarm points for high temp and high / low pressure.

I have had a lot of experience with TPMS systems in the mining and heavy haulage transport industries over the years, and this system is at least as good as anything else I've seen, and better than many of the systems seen on 4WD vehicles etc. The cost of a decent system like this is paid off if it saves you just one tyre failure. ;)

What area of the CCF contains the TPMS code?

Curious to see if my MY13 D4 has this hidden feature.

I'm pretty sure a MY13 D4 won't be pre-wired for TPMS. But it shouldn't be too hard to spot the connectors in the wheel wells where the initiators plug in, if they are there...

The option for TPMS is in the CCF of all vehicles since 2005 or so, it's not "hidden" it's just turned off i.e. "Without Monitoring System". But there are like 32 different modes to choose from, and only a few of them actually are suitable for that particular vehicle.

Cambo351, what did it cost to set up the Freelander? The owner must be stoked!

The Freelander 2 was only pre-wired for TPMS from cars built in 2014.

The EU regulations came into effect from November 2014 for new registrations, add that market to the US and it's a big portion of the market that needs TPMS by law. So I would expect that other LR models built around that timeframe might be also pre-wired.

The FL2 that we did this retrofit on was built in August 2014.

Honestly I don't know what it cost him, I just did the CCF edit for him.

Hardware was the 5x sensors in the wheels, and the 4x initiator antenna in the wheel wells.

Looking at UK list prices the TPMS wheel sensors are about $120 each and the initiators something like $20 each, but I just saw a set of four new sensors on ebay.uk for 50 pounds. They are the same sensors on various LR models and Jags too.

Just make sure you get the right frequency. The 2014 FL2 used 433Mhz sensors. Some older models used 315Mhz. I think all 2014 onwards will be using 433Mhz but don't quote me on it lol.

I just checked the build sheets of a few 2014 & 2015MY Disco 4's on Topix (cars sitting at a dealer in Sydney) it says the exact same thing in the build sheet as the Freelander did "LESS TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS", Disco 4's with vins EAxxxxxx, FAxxxxxx, GAxxxxxx all say the same.

Someone needs to crawl under their car and have a look :)

Our D4 has the OEM TPMS system fitted and while yes it lets you know when you drop below a set pressure, which is good, it doesn't let you know what pressure the tyres are at at any given time.

Better than nothing but nothing to write home about.

I'd like to look it up and see what the factory CCF settings are.

The sensors transmit the exact pressure (and the temperature too) of each wheel it's just that the instrument cluster doesn't display it.

As I mentioned there are 30+ different options for TPMS in the CCF, so i'm looking to see if perhaps more information is available by using a different setting...

I'm keen on the Sensatyre system too but have more pressing matters at the moment with a stuffed engine (see my other post). Note that there are two kits available for Sensatyre - up to 4 wheels and 4 to 14 wheels. The 4 wheel kit cannot be expanded further.

Topix lists my 2010 RRS as 'Less tire pressure sensors' too. *shrug*

What would I be looking for under the car exactly?

The connectors look like this:

They will be on the inside of the plastic wheel arch liners.

You should see two holes and a kind of imprint where the initiators are mounted.
