I dont think there is any beach 4x4 down there.

Hi All,
We're heading to Sandy Bay with some school friends on the March long weekend. I'm not familiar with the area so I'm hoping some one can give some advice about beach access and driving in the area.

I would say that the only sand driving anywhere near there is the Three Bears Track from Sugarloaf Rock Road to Yallingup. There is also a beach you can drive on somewhere north of Peppermint Beach which is north of Busselton.
Our favourite track is Bob's Track to Boranup Beach and for a long distance along the beach. This track comes off Caves Road north of Hamelin Bay, just north of Bushby Rd. Boranup Beach is one of the best beaches in the south west and is well worth a drive and a swim or surf. Let your tyres down to 18 or less as it is often very soft and we often have to recover people that don't let their tyres down.
There are a few other beaches along the west coast such as Cape Freisinet to the north of the Margaret River mouth if you do some research on the web or buy a Hema map book with recommended trips around WA.

As Bob D mentioned the only tracks I've driven on down their are the Bears track, the forest trails in Boranup and along Boranup beach. You could call the Busselton Council and get the lowdown from them.
There is also good four wheel driving further south on the track to White Point, Black Point and Lake Jasper starting at Scott Road east of Augusta. I have driven my Patrol from White Point many km along the beach to the mouth of the Blackwood River at Augusta but I wouldn't recommend it. The beach is very narrow and sloping into the water. I was extremely worried but made it OK. I was following my crazy son in law who is a local and was on a quad bike. He told me it isn't a problem but I would never do it again!!

There is also Willyabrup track which is Gravel down to a nice beach off Caves Rd. Just before Prevelly heading south there is also Kilcarnup Rd to beaches...![]()
Also Deepdene Beach, which turns south off the Cosy Corner Rd just south of Hamelin Bay. This is also a very soft beach but a very good drive. I haven't yet tried it in the D4 though. The entrance onto the beach from the track gets very wind blown with sand drifts making it tricky sometimes. Best to walk down and have a look first when you get near it, in case it is impassible. At best it has a big camber as you drive almost parallel with the drift.

Thanks All, for the replies. It gives me a starting point to work from. I'll be with a group with limited experience so I'll need to pick somewhere on the lower side of difficulty.
I could see on google earth that there are tracks (can't tell if vehicle or walking) that go onto the beach directly in front of the Sandy Bay Holiday Park. I'm now assuming that these are not vehicle access tracks. Can anyone confirm?

The easiest one is Three Bears from Sugarloaf Rock Road. Some rocks, some sand tracks, sandy hills and some soft sand road that has become a track. Good for a beginner and will give them a lot of fun.
Go from the Sugarloaf end as it is hard to find the start point at the Yallingup end unless you have been shown. As I said before, definitely no driving on the beaches in Busselton / Dunsborough.
